Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach, Curio Collection by Hilton

All the elevators were constantly breaking down. We were on the 3rd floor and my wife has severe arthritis. We were there for our 50th wedding anniversary. I had to carry luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs. Not happy. We checked out a day early and would like either a rain check or a refund of our second day. We have stayed here previously and did not have any elevator issues.

Where to begin ...I was very excited to visit this new (remodeled and upgraded to Curio I believe) hotel near the beach. That's about as far as the positive beach vibe goes. Problems problems..... Dirty towels were strew everywhere along the corridors, hours after housekeeping is supposed to be done. Stains on the (new?) furniture. Lack of amenities (they don't offer slippers or bathrobes). Delayed check in pastb stated check in window. Dirty corridors on the lower levels with terrible smells. Bird poop view from balcony. Staff that didn't seem to know the property. For the food, can you imagine walking to the hotel restaurant (located in the hotel but several buildings over) after being unable to reach them on the phone, only to find that they can't seat you because they don't know how to book a reservation on their seat assignment iPad? Literally was told to go to Opentable while standing right in front of a bunch of open tables and book the next available slot and come back so they could seat us. Then after returning in 15 minutes to find that the host stand was now deserted with four parties waiting. Restaurant food was good but the whole experience is just an example of how bad the operations are at this hotel. All elevators were down in my building (originally advised that only one was down hah) in the building so good luck walking up and down every time you have to get to your room or car. Staff didn’t seem to think it was a big deal. The strangest thing is that the staff are overall very nice people….... it's just that the hotel operations in every department seem to be disorganized and not ready for prime time. Truly a shame and disappointment. By the way, when looking up the hotel prior to booking, happened upon a promo story written by the hotel about the new hotel's general manager Ben Ly. I admittedly skimmed the piece but it basically mentions how he's had a long and successful career with the chain. I really hope he can turn things around because this is truly a disappointing turn of events for a newish hotel. And Ben, if you are reading this, the assistant front office management is absolutely no help at all and really needs to be retrained on how to deal with hospitality issues — Honestly kinda a disaster tbh.

Zachari Dunes is a wonderful full service resort located on beautiful Mandalay Beach just over an hour from LAX. Excellent food and beverage options with very friendly hospitable staff. The all suites format makes for a comfortable stay. We chose a partial oceanview room second floor in building A.
