The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas

My stay here was amazing, mainly thanks to the outstanding service from Wendalyn, Kailya and Finel at the italian restaurant, they were absolutely phenomenal. Wendalyn made us feel like family, very attentive to our children and told us a lot about the island, while Kailya at the bar gave us a lot of information about dining options in st. John, and Finel checked on us many times during our dinner, laughed with us and was very joyful. The rooms are a bit outdated, but I liked the style for within the hotel, the location is ideal and the water activites was great. The spa is luxurious, with great amenities and complimentary drinks that add a nice touch.

Our stay at the Ritz this year has been very disappointing compared to our previous visits. Unfortunately, the overall experience has declined significantly. The level of service is no longer what we’ve come to expect. Staff interactions feel noticeably less attentive and welcoming than in the past. Additionally, the condition of the facilities—particularly our poolside cabana—is poor. The curtain is extremely difficult to operate, requiring significant effort to slide along a deteriorating rod. The television is missing a remote, the overhead fan is not functioning, and the refrigerator was minimally stocked with only two bottles of water. The cabinetry is also in disrepair. Having just come from another resort, the difference in quality is stark. This experience has not met the standards we associate with the Ritz.

I want to start with an important caveat: if this resort were half the price, I’d be giving it a solid 4–5 star review without hesitation. But at the rates they charge, the experience just doesn’t measure up—and that gap is hard to ignore. Let’s start with the food, because that was probably the biggest letdown. Nothing we had stood out in a meaningful way. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t memorable, which is a problem at this price point. The Italian restaurant in particular felt more like an upscale chain experience—closer to Olive Garden than something you’d expect from a luxury resort. When you’re paying premium prices, you expect at least one meal that makes you say “wow,” and we just didn’t get that. Service is something I saw a lot of complaints about before arriving, and honestly, I think those reviews are a bit harsh. The staff we encountered were generally friendly, polite, and attentive. Were they over-the-top, anticipatory, or exceptionally polished? Not really. But they were perfectly pleasant and did their jobs well. If you’re expecting ultra-refined, next-level service, you might feel it falls short—but it wasn’t a negative part of our stay. The beach was actually one of the highlights. It never felt overcrowded, and we had no problem finding chairs at any time of day. That made for a much more relaxing experience compared to other resorts where you’re scrambling early in the morning. On the flip side, the pool situation was the opposite. It filled up quickly—very early in the day—and stayed crowded. That may have been due to the timing of our trip (right at the start of Spring Break season, week of March 17), but it’s something to be aware of if pool time is important to you. At the end of the day, this place isn’t terrible—it’s just overpriced for what it delivers. If nightly rates were in the $600–$700 range or below, I’d say go for it and you’ll likely have a great time. But at the higher price points, there are simply better options out there that offer a more elevated overall experience. Bottom line: decent resort, good beach, acceptable service—but not worth the premium price. Keep your expectations (and your budget) in check.

The Ritz Carlton in st Thomas is living off the company's reputation. While the room was clean, it was highly overpriced and completely overrated. For the price we paid, which actually was a discounted price for a wedding, it should be all inclusive. And that still wouldn't be worth it.

We just recently stayed for our school vacation week . We are family of 5 and we were coming to celebrate my son’s 13th bday! The hotel was fully occupied that week because of school vacation week for boston and New York but two main managers made sure that our stay was wonderful ; from the hotel room we got, to the surprise gifts for my son to the dining experience and overall service was superb ! I would highly recommend! Whether it’s a quick weekend trip or a family trip ; there are a lot of things to do on the property; two large pools ; Aldo one in the residencies where you can go and they have a volleyball net to the basketball hop to the tennis court and 24 hour gym Hotel is also conveniently located to the port just a few minutes away by boat which runs every hour if you want to escape for a day to St. John which has amazing beaches ! We did that for two days . Dining options are good as well , the wait time was a little bit of a problem so I would suggest making a reservation but we did go one of the most busy weeks !! Overall a great stay for my family ! Will def be back soon! Highly recommend ! Thanks to manager Joe and Marc that you made this stay very special for us !! See you all soon again !

We came to the Ritz St. Thomas expecting to have a very nice time, but our expectations were EXCEEDED! We booked 8 days to celebrate my daughter’s 30th birthday, and chose the Club Lounge. That (the food and service), in itself, was amazing, but I have to call out several of the lounge attendants for making our time so very extra special. I do not know the names 0f ALL the people who were so wonderful, but these are several of them. JJ in the Club Lounge Concierge area was diligent, attentive, friendly and paid much attention to detail. In the food area, the following were fabulous and friendly, and very attentive to all of us but especially our daughter: Ka Maiya, Ruth, Bertha, Shirley, Catherine and Rashad. A couple of these people even gave some gifts to our daughter — very thoughtful and fun. We were greeted on arrival by Vinnie, who brought us some welcome drinks. Danley at the beach was also a standout, as were Celine and Jahniel. We took the Days End Sunset Sail on the Lady Lynsey, which was gorgeous and delightful, and highly recommended. And we all got massages at the Ritz Spa: so very good! We ate our birthday dinner at Alloro, and were served delicious food by a very friendly young lady named Anubeah. By naming these team members, I do not mean to exclude anyone, as all the staff are such nice people, and so were so many of the guests themselves. Team members went out of their way to serve us and to make us feel welcome and appreciated. We don’t very often return to a place we’ve travelled to before, but we are thinking seriously about returning to this Ritz next year for another family birthday. I could not recommend this Ritz more highly. YOU MUST GO, AND PAY THE EXTRA FOR THE CLUB LOUNGE! Thank you all so much!

I really wanted to like this hotel, but unfortunately the comments others raise are true. We needed to move rooms after the first night because there is no soundproofing between adjoining rooms. They accommodated, but this hotel should have been designed better. Staff were friendly but consistently promised things they were unable to deliver (eg bellhops never came despite multiple calls). The restaurants were consistently out of items, and substitutions made no sense (eg a California Chardonnay is not the same as an Albariño). This is the worst Ritz I have ever stayed at! It is priced like a Ritz but feels more like a Sheraton or Marriott.

Beds were super uncomfortable, Long waits at Allora and Sails, charged kids club, crowded pools and club side beach. Mosquitos everywhere with no warning at check in. The staff doesnt care

Group of 8 stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Residence, St Thomas. The service is second to none. Staff are friendly and always willing to help. Cookies at the front desk at 3:30pm is a must. Coffee from 6am-11am is a nice treat. Night cap at 8:30pm is excellent. The grounds are impeccable. Been there 5x and can't wait to go back again.

I haven’t written a review in many years but thought this trip justified it, particularly for the high quality of service from Erika and others. The ritz st Thomas is a very nice hotel. We had an outstanding family vacation w my wife and 3 kids 14, 12 and 9. It’s not the best ritz property I’ve been to, but still very very nice and we will be back. For review purposes, the only noteworthy setback I’d note is the beach is rocky and not very friendly for swimming. But they provide complimentary water activities like snorkel and kayaks etc so you can still take advantage of the beautiful water. Food at the Italian restaurant was very good. Sails is the pool restaurant but at night it’s nicely converted to a dinner spot and it works well. Breakfast buffet is very good. The infinity pool is great w an amazing view. You may want to get a cabana as seating at pool is limited. Our family travels to many nice places and I normally don’t see the quality of service as high as we did this trip. Ericka at the hotel was incredibly kind and went out of her way to welcome us. She cheerfully greeted us when we checked in, came to us at the pool w drinks, had flowers in the shape of a heart outside our door for Valentine’s Day, helped w dinner reservations, gave my kids gifts, etc. I would have rated the hotel 4.5 stars but because of Erika it’s closer a 5/5. My kids really felt special it’s amazing what great customer service can do for the sentiment of a trip. Book a boat to really get out and see surrounding areas and beaches. We used seas the day charters. Hope is the owner and she set us up with Dave and Philip as great captains. Hit lovango for lunch and find some white sand beaches. Snorkel etc. that was our favorite day. The island felt very safe from airport to hotel and at the red hook marina. We arrived before Presidents’ Day weekend and it was quiet at the hotel. By the weekend it was much more crowded. But this is not a massive property relative to some other Caribbean ritz, four seasons, st Regis, so we appreciated that it didn’t feel overly jammed. We would highly recommend for a great trip for families or couples. Thank you again Erika!
