I woke up with a cockroach in my bed

Room was clean and well laid out. Air-conditioning worked and was easy to adjust. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was available for a great amount of time, and was good.

This was my fourth time staying here, and honestly, it will be my last. It’s never been great, but this time was by far the worst. The staff at the front desk was very kind, but when we were told the elevator wasn’t working, it felt like déjà vu. Every time we’ve stayed here over the years, the elevator has been broken. Thankfully, my uncle, who has mobility issues, canceled his trip, because he wouldn’t have been able to manage a second-floor room. The room itself was awful. The second we opened the door, it smelled like mildew. Everything felt sticky or dirty, so we went out and bought cleaning supplies and Lysol before unpacking (which the cleaning staff thought was there, and removed from our room!!!). We refused to set anything on the couch or bed until we checked it with a black light (something we always travel with). The bed, thankfully, was the only thing that seemed clean. The bathroom was disgusting. The wall had what looked like dried vomit or worse splattered on it, the light fixture had dead roaches inside, and the floors lit up under the black light like they had never once been mopped. Even the bedroom floors had visible shoe and animal footprints. There was a white substance in the corner by the lamp that was impossible to miss. The fridge also had old spills in it. Needless to say, this place is filthy. We haven’t tried breakfast yet, but based on the condition of the room, I don’t have high hopes. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere in Lynchburg instead. There are far cleaner, better-maintained options. Unless you absolutely need to save a few dollars, avoid this hotel. If we hadn’t already paid, we’d be gone.

We got here today (10/01/2025). We drove all the way down from Maine for our annual visit of the area were our family is from and our family farm resides. We stay here because its a tradition when visiting the area. We have stayed here for at least 30+ years. However, it has definitely gone downhill over the last 4 or 5 years. If you're looking just for a place to sleep and you're not concerned about overall cleanliness, then this is your place. The floors were sticky, the lamps hadn't been wiped down for a while it appeared, we pulled the bad away to find a plug and found the clock along with some general trash behind the bed, and the overpowering smell of mildew was crazy. We went down to the store and got some lysol to clean the room ourselves. As much as we'd like to keep the tradition going I think this will be our last time staying here. The Hilton brands up in Lynchburg appear to be a much better option and not to much further away.
