Aque Cave - Le Grotte del Caveoso

Highly recommend this cave hotel! Welcoming and professional staff! Made us feel comfortable from the beginning, fantastic room with air conditioning, bath tub is incredible especially with all the candles and there is also a hair dryer! They provide a lovely breakfast in the morning my favourite was the mozzarella balls, lemon cake and pot of English breakfast tea! Comfy bed and ace shower. Located in an ideal area of Matera to reach everywhere in the area by a lovely walk. The sister and brother give brilliant recommendations of places to eat, drink and visit. Nothing was too much trouble, they went above and beyond to make sure we were content. They were very happy and their staff hard working and polite! Thank you Aqua Cave x

Stunning hotel room in a very central part of Matera. All the best restaurants and attractions are only a few minutes walk. Everything about the room was luxurious including a very good sound system. The rooms are naturally cooler but the internal air con was an added bonus.

Rooms are everything you might want from living in a cave without all the things you wouldn't. If you're looking for something uniquely enchanting, Aque Cave lives up to the charm & excellence that is the whole of Matera. The same description applies to both the town and their rentals: An enchanting labyrinth of hidden spaces and discoveries, beautifully curated and very comfortable. Paola and Francesco are excellent hosts, charismatic, smart, charming, and helpful. If what you're looking for is a fantastic location, great breakfasts, and people who can point you to the sights, they are perfect. They make it all seem easy and effortless. In fact, it's not. But what they've achieved takes quite an effort. There's a lot of unseen infrastructure -- for air and humidity -- in constant need of maintenance and upgrade, that makes the rooms as comfortable as they are. Without all that the rooms wouldn't be nearly as comfortable. The history of life in these caves was a lot more challenging: where now you can enjoy a great time with the partner of your choice, in prior centuries you might have been bunking with mules, a pig, and a chamber pot. If you're interested in learning some of the history of Matera, the hosts are enormously charismatic, great storytellers with an enthusiasm for details and ironies. They can clue you in to how Matera offers a far richer experience than you might at first suspect. The room we were in was the only one with a window that has a spectacular view of the Church of St. Mary of Idris -- an improbable structure built on a prominent rock, walking distance away. It's stunning. There are other rooms, including one a few steps down that's larger, deeper, and more cavernous. Each space they offer is different. You can't really go wrong. This is a unique place to visit and Aque Cave makes it exceptional.

We stayed here for one night. Pre check-in information was excellent. We were directed to a car park just 5 mins walk to the accommodation. On arrival Francesco was super helpful telling us the top sites to visit and giving us restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was delicious, the best we’ve had so far on our trip. All in all a wonderful stay in a beautiful cave. Highly recommended! Thank you both

This property was amazing, even better than the pictures portrayed! The place was spacious, clean, and just incredible. The owners have put a lot of attention to detail from the decor to the utility of everything inside. The shower was nice, wifi worked well, there's a cute patio outside, good natural light, and good AC. Breakfast next door was very nice and included fruit, pastries, sliced meats, juices, coffee, bread, and jams. The location was very nice as well. While tucked away in the corner of the old town, it has restaurants just down the steps and a plaza with a beautiful view just a few mins away. Last, the owners were very helpful in providing recommendations in town and around the Puglia region.

Hauling luggage up the steps wasn't the funnest thing to do but it was manageable and worth it. Plus, you're in Matera so steps are to be expected.

Great location, very comfortable and unique rooms with every comfort provided!

Good walking shoes, are essential for all of Matera!

The design and decor was stylish , atmospheric, comfortable and really practical. The shower was huge and the toiletries supplied were comprehensive and good quality. The breakfast was excellent and you could either have it at a table outside or in the dining room which was in a cave room. Both the owners Paola and Francesco were very happy to help with places to see and where to eat. They even followed up after our stay with tips on things to do on the remainder of the trip. The location was excellent with most sights within 10-15 minutes distance. Matera is tricky to drive in and park but Paola suggested a secure car park out of town with a shuttle service which made for a stress free trip.
