The Gardens Hotel

The breakfast was faultless - good service, plenty of choice of both cold and hot options - great cooked full English with poached eggs. The location - 15 minutes walk from railway station, bus and tram options could be seen from room window. Clean, basic room and ensuite, working WiFi and drink making facilities. Nice to have the lift option. No loiterers on the steps as have been referred to in past reviews.

Was one of the hottest days of the year but with no air-conditioning the room was stiflingly hot when we entered late afternoon. However, a fan had already been put in the room which helped but we were glad to get out in the evening air. Cooled off a bit by our return thank goodness. The shower taps were extremely tough to turn on and off but the shower itself though basic had good power. Nb/Red hot hot water so do the cold first! The squeaky floorboards were a bit of a pain but it’s not a new build so this was understandable. Location was great but rather noisy with window open - back of hotel may have been quieter (&cooler). I took earplugs which definitely helped.

Hotel very central only thing was a small double bed which is not advertised if I had realised this as would have book bigger room. Hotel rooms are tired but good value for money. Would recommend . For location.

The location

Room was extremely hot, only a small fan in the room and got very little sleep both nights I was there. The shower was extremely difficult to use. Never used a more complicated shower mixer. Only extremely hot or cold water came out. Couldn’t get it in between to a warm temperature
