"Avoid this place."

2.0

We recently stayed two nights at The Wiltshire Hotel, Golf and Leisure Resort with my wife and our 6-year-old son. While the staff were consistently warm, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay—a real credit to the place—that’s sadly where the positives stop. On arrival, we were informed we’d been “upgraded” from the family room I’d booked (which included two beds) to a suite, described as “the nicest room in the hotel.” However, when we got to the room, it contained just one bed and a very small sofa—not a pull-out or even remotely suitable for a child. Given the receptionist had seen the three of us, it made no sense. Wanting to make the most of our stay and not cause a fuss, we didn’t request a change, but this meant spending two uncomfortable nights all squeezed into a single bed. Not exactly the relaxing family break we had hoped for. The room itself lacked basic amenities: there was no safe, not enough towels for three people (barely enough for two), no teaspoons to stir tea or coffee, and no small touches like biscuits that you’d normally expect at this price point. These might sound like small details, but when combined, they add up to an experience that doesn’t meet expectations—especially when the stay isn’t budget-friendly. The hotel is clearly in need of investment and modernisation. It has “1991” engraved above the door to reception, and sadly, it feels like that’s the last time it saw any meaningful updates. Stained, worn carpets, tired décor, and ageing facilities reflect years of use without the care and attention you’d expect from a place billing itself as a resort. Even breakfast doesn’t start until 8:00 AM, which felt surprisingly late for a family-focused venue. Overall, this was a deeply disappointing stay. Lovely staff can only go so far when the rest of the experience misses the mark. The hotel lacks the standard of comfort, cleanliness, and basic convenience that we expect as a family, especially at the rate paid. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend The Wiltshire to families. Until the hotel undergoes a full renovation and rethinks its approach to family accommodation, I suggest looking elsewhere.

A very tired and run down hotel run by staff who have obviously brought the place as seen and have no clue or experience in running a business like this. Rooms were grubby and the view of the building materials from our room really made our stay! We were told not to have the windows open as bugs will come in, even though they were already sharing the room with us! One person runs the reception and the bar and this person is not trained in bar work or how to serve drinks in any way. You have to go looking for anyone for service. They have a PCN company running the carpark (probrably another way of making money for themselves to fine their customers for parking there. the car park is massive and empty with the golf course empty even on a Saturday which made the alarm bells ring. So all in all a dirty, tired, badly run hotel which really should not be run by these people in my opinion as it could ruin someones weekend away.

"Won’t be returning next year."

We arrived Friday afternoon, booked in. We were told at reception don’t leave the windows open at night, because of the mosquito s. Went to the room ,heating on full belt, no control in the room at all. Hardly slept the two nights we were there. All the carpets throughout the building marked and worn and paint work in very poor condition. The room wasn’t cleaned the next day, either tea ,coffee and milk not replenished, had to ask at reception for these items. The one and only good thing about our stay was draught Guinness.

Fine for a brief boys trip with dad and nephew, but couldnt have brough mum here! Very very tired. This has potential to be great if refurbished but as stands is on par with a hostel for students.

:The Wiltshire Hotel, Golf and Leisure Resort Family Stay – July 2025 The Good - The **staff were lovely** throughout our two-night family stay. Every interaction was warm and welcoming. The Disappointments Facilities & Cleanliness - The building is marked with “1991” above reception, and it truly feels like the hotel hasn’t been updated since. Décor is extremely dated, and the **carpets are stained and look filthy**, showing obvious signs of age and neglect. - **Breakfast service starts at 8am**, which is later than most hotels and not ideal for families with younger children or early risers. Room Issues - We were informed on arrival that we had been “upgraded” to the hotel’s “nicest room,” a suite. Despite the apparent upgrade, there was **only one bed for the three of us** (my wife and our 6-year-old son). There was no pull-out bed or proper sleeping arrangement for a child, and the sofa was **far too small** even for a young child. This resulted in all of us having to squeeze into one bed – a very uncomfortable experience. I had booked a room with two beds. - The room lacked several basics, including: - No safe - Insufficient towels (not enough even for two guests, let alone three) - No teaspoons for the in-room tea/coffee; also, no biscuits or similar amenities - For the **price paid**, these issues were especially disappointing, as we had reasonably expected much more. General Atmosphere - The **entire hotel felt tired and worn out**

"Not worth it!"

Sadly this hotel was a let down. The website an reviews are massively over statedHotel is refurbishing and extending Spa area but is missing some basic fundamentals in hotel cleanliness, air conditioned rooms, restaurant quality and course care. It's a shame as coul be an amazing place a ha so much potential. I do not recommend. I will not be returning.

"Oh Dear oh dear!"

Hotel itself is in a lovely location and decent size. The gym is amazing for a hotel gym but that’s where the good stuff ends. Room was filthy, with hair all over the floor in the bathroom and in the bath itself. Was told to keep my windows closed in 30 degree heat. Food was appalling but should have guessed considering the restaraunt/bar was empty. Wasn’t expecting gourmet but for £17 for fish and chips you need to do better. Breakfast items were cold/barely cooked. Hallways were filthy, whole place needs a deep clean. Staff were friendly but not sure how this place is open to be honest, barely anyone in the hotel and golf course looked empty. Needs major improvement.

"Bites."

2.0

My husband stayed here for 1 night. His company booked the hotel. Omg, all l I can say is that he came home with loads of bites on him. We had been to turkey the week before. He had a couple there. Here he had them over his face.arms, hands and his back was something else. He's too polite to do a review, but I think customers should be prewarned.he doesn't know if It was bedbugs, fleas or mozzies.

Knowing from a 'local' that it was only 3 months on from being migrant accommodation the Hotel was obviously not yet back to normal and although the room was adequate, and very quiet the ceilings needed a thorough dusting to remove cobwebs. The corridor carpeting also needed attention. The staff went out of their way to be both friendly and helpful and I am sure if we needed a bath plug one would have been provided. The shower was a bit contrary from warm if held at knee height to freezing if set overhead (with control set to 50 degrees) Breakfast was well cooked and filling but it would have been better still had fresh fruit and yoghurts had been available as is normal at all other hotels we have stayed in. Overall we would come back again should we be in the area and would hope that the standards had improved.
