Burgh Island Hotel

This was a thoroughly relaxing weekend break. Exemplary levels of service, comfortable surroundings and great food all while staying in a beautiful building of historic interest in a stunning seaside location.

Have viewed Burgh Island from Bantham for many years. It became almost mythical, a hotel cut off from the Mainland twice a day by the tide. Finally we spent two nights there and it was everything we’d hoped for.

We come back to the Burgh Island hotel every year for our wedding anniversary, as we got married there. It never fails to exceed our expectations! It’s a very special place.

We've always wanted to stay at the hotel since we visited the island with our two boys in 2009 and finally decided to take up a two-night dinner B&B offer. The complementary glass of fizz on arrival was much appreciated. We stayed in a grand suite which had two large rooms, a balcony with wonderful views. There was tea and coffee making facilities, replenished daily, and they brought us milk. Robes and slippers are always a nice touch. The room is tidied twice a day and a turn-down chocolate left on the pillow. The only thing to note is that there is a bath with a hand held shower with no curtains. So getting into the bath might be difficult for some. And it was difficult to shower without water going everywhere. The breakfast buffet is extensive and a wide selection of food cooked to order. There is an extensive cocktail list and you are given a tray of canapés 3/4 hour before your dinner. We ate in the Nettlefold Restaurant both nights which had the same menu as the ballroom but was the same for both nights. The food was very good. Pickup and departures using either a car or the sea tractor, with bags taken to and from your room worked like a dream. And the sea tractor is fun! It goes once an hour during high tide and picks up again an hour later. A wonderful relaxing stay and we were well looked after by all staff.

We had a wonderful long weekend at Burgh Island in March 2026 celebrating my mum’s birthday, as she's wanted to visit forever, and it truly exceeded our expectations. We chose to stay on one of the weekends with the murder mystery experience, and it was a really fun and memorable highlight that added a unique touch to our stay. I had let the hotel know in advance it would be my mum's birthday, and they went out of their way at every opportunity to wish her many happy returns, which made her feel special. The staff was fantastic all round; every member of the team delivered excellent service and made us feel welcome and cared for throughout. The ambiance of the hotel is obviously very special, with beautifully maintained, restored, or replicated antique furniture and décor that transport you to an art deco era. The food was delicious at every meal, though we were a little surprised at the limited range and relative cost of dishes at the Pilchard Inn. However, the dinners we had in the ballroom and Nettlefold restaurant were brilliant, and certainly good value for what we had. Overall, it was a super lovely and memorable break, and we’d happily return again and highly recommend to others looking for a unique getaway.

The setting is phenomenal, the service excellent leading to a relaxing and special stay. The perfect place to celebrate our Anniversary.

My wife and I have stayed at the Burgh Island Hotel before and each visit is always such a pleasure. The fabulous and unique location. The Art Deco styling. Super comfortable beds. The glamorous dining. The quality food and fabulous service all add up to an amazing experience. We always immerse ourselves fully in the atmosphere of the place and really dress up when dining and relaxing in the hotel. This adds to the sense of occasion for us. Another great stay and we can't wait to return.

From arrival to departure this was a wonderful trip. The staff were friendly, welcoming and always helpful. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable with quality bedding. The shower was powerful and refreshing. Everything we ate was delicious. The cocktails as you would want. Mama Tokus and the band were superb. We stayed for the entire show and, as she remarked, those of us that did stay turned the ambience into that of a small club. “Nice”. It wasn’t just a stay, it was an experience to be savoured.

Celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday. We had the most amazing time. The hotel, staff, rooms and experiences were wonderful. We didn’t want to leave.
