University Road Apartments

The property is in an excellent location for getting around Belfast. Well within walking distance of the city centre shopping areas and Belfast city hall. There are bus stops just outside the apartment if you wanted to travel anywhere by bus. Would also be walkable to the university, botanic gardens, opera house, ulster hall and much more. Chippie just below the apartment, and a tesco express just the next shop down with an outside ATM. The apartment is large - we stayed in the 3 bed one on the first floor - bedrooms are a good size and the living area is a big space, with L shaped sofa and table and six chairs. The beds were comfortable and good sizes.

We stayed for four nights over the christmas break and were therefore looking for self catering. The facilities for cooking are not up to standard. Only one shelf in the oven, and one large oven tray - this tray did not fit into the oven correctly and could only sit on the base of the oven. No oven trays, no oven mitts. Sitting area could do with another arm chair, not quite enough room on the L shaped sofa for the five of us. A coffee table would be a welcome addition to sitting room area. Decor within the entire apartment can only be described as bland. Belfast is a beautiful city and some enlarged shots of the city would be an excellent addition to the ambience of the apartment. The worst for us was the bathrooms. Both bathrooms were very smelly, musty and damp smelling. There is a bath in the main bathroom but it was unusable as the plug was not working. The shower door in the main bathroom was hanging off, my son-in-law managed to fix it for me. We were asked to leave it clean etc - not an unreasonable request. However we were not supplied with the correct equipment to keep the place clean. No bin bags supplied. Floor brush was tiny. Only kitchen cleaning supplies were a half bottle of washing up liquid and an obviously used kitchen sponge. All very fixable with a bit of care and attention to detail. If the people renting this place actually tried living it in for even a week they would quickly see all the changes that need to be made.

Was a little bit noisy sleeping in sofa bed in living room due to traffic but wouldn't put us off staying again

We stayed in Apartment 1, very spacious and very near the university and Botanic Gardens. Within a 15 min walk of Grand Central Station and City Hall. We didn’t cook while there (we were on holiday!) but the kitchen was well equipped. Also tea bags and coffee were provided which was a nice touch. The apartment was above a fish and chip shop which was very handy, but a bit smelly at times if the windows are opened, but we found that if the internal doors were left open it was much better. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if in Belfast!

It would have been useful to have some tourism information leaflets in the apartment.
