Stayed one night for a concert in Cardiff.....Very Friendly staff who arranged a taxi for us Rooms were comfortable; bar and eating area was spacious and ideal for a couple of drinks before going to our concert. The breakfast menu was great

Staff were understanding and helpful

Hottest day of year. No cold shower, it was either hot or scolding. Heated towel rail was on as well with no controls.

Convenient location for our purposes. Friendly, welcoming staff. Large, clean room. Air conditioning! Temperatures were in the 30s. Great breakfast.

Reception area was rather sparse. This wouldn't be a deal breaker though.

We booked The Maltsters as it was the most convenient hotel to park the car within walking distance to the cricket ground, where we spent all four days at a County match. Food was very good at the Maltsters, beer was well-kept, though only one choice of ale and bar prices were significantly more than any we paid on a recent trip to central London! The room was comfortable and we slept well. There are also other places to eat and drink should you want a change; an excellent pub within 3 minutes' walk - The Butcher's Arms, a rare old local's drinking boozer with some fabulous sporting memorabilia adorning the walls; and a good Indian restaurant, however the lamb shank at The Maltsters is a must if staying. Breakfast was very good and kept us going each day until the lunch interval. The Cathedral, just 5 minutes walk, is well worth a visit.

There appears to be a modern trend in hotels of not servicing rooms, despite any cock and bull story to the contrary we can't accept it's any reason other than laziness. Here you are told you need to request this each morning, which we did, though 2 out of 4 mornings it didn't happen and we were left to appeal for tea, coffee and toilet rolls at the bar before retiring. The bed was not made or changed during the 5 night stay; where has "Good Old Fashioned" service and hotel tradition gone? We would have liked to have given a top mark for staff, as most were exceptionally friendly and efficient, however there was one member who gave us the impression of not being welcome; were we there only for that night it would have given totally the wrong impression. Notwithstanding these points though we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to future travellers, particularly cricket fans.
