The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

Headlines: Valet crashed my car and now 2 months later haven't paid for the repair. Room not ready at check-in. When we did get room it smelled of cigarette smoke and had dirty sheets. Recently we had a really disappointing stay at the Westin Gaslamp. We've been coming to this hotel once a year for the past 4 years and this was by far the worst experience we've had at this hotel, or any hotel. It started when we showed up after check-in time and there were no rooms ready for us. We were going to a baseball game so we stored our luggage with the bellhop. When we got back from the game, late at night with our kid, our room was ready but when we got into it the room smelled strongly of cigarettes. We complained to the front desk but they said the hotel was full and they couldn't change our room. Then we I got into bed I noticed dirty marks on the white sheets. Gross. BUT THE WORST PART - when I got my car back in the morning the had smashed my side view mirror into a pillar in the parking lot. They brought the car out and admitted to it right away and apologized (mind you, the car was 3 days old!) but I was pissed. So then they say they will pay to have it fixed but it's now been 2 months and they still haven't taken care of it. I've been following up weekly and they either don't respond or take a long time to respond and I'm left waiting for them to pay for it. Extremely frustrating. I will not be staying in this hotel next year for our annual San Diego trip. Be warned!

very nice hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at The Westin San Diego in Gaslamp. It's centrally located to great restaurants, bars, and sites. The entire staff was super helpful and friendly. Ernie at the restaurant was great! I would stay at the Westin again anytime.

Enjoyed the walkability to the Midway, all the nearby bars and restaurants as well as Petco Park.

It was nice, the city view was amazing. I would definitely stay there again anytime.

Room was perfect for my stay. Front desk was super nice. I asked if I could store luggage until check in time and they said oh we can see if your room is available now. They were extremely friendly and helpful.

Centralized location made it easy to get around. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The bar area had tables and couches available depending on what you wanted/needed.

Pool was small and basic.

I am pretty easy going, don’t really think I’m high maintenance when it comes to hotel rooms, but some non-negotiables are cleanliness, and I absolutely can’t stand standing water in the shower. After our first shower it was discovered, we informed the desk, while we were out someone came in to rectify it. When we got back, the bathtub was full of gross hair and sludge from whatever came up from the drain. You couldn’t clean that up? And the standing water situation didn’t get fixed. I was still standing in ankle deep dirty water while taking a shower. The rains shower head and handheld shower head would both be on at the same time, the handle was not working to turn one off, and lastly the toilet was so incredibly loud, it sounded like you were breaking the porcelain when you flushed. Also, we had an ant problem in our bathroom. We did not have any food in our room either. I would expect more from Marriott, it’s not like we’re staying at a motel 6. Other than the cleanliness issues, it’s a great walkable location.
