Breakfast was quite good. Fairly limited choice. Toast was just regular thin sliced bread. No boiling water to make tea.

Prior to arrival we were unable to get any person to answer the phone to discuss aspects of our booking. Calls went to an unhelpful chat bot or equally unhelpful central booking desk or went to voicemail (unanswered). One response to questions posted on Booking.com promised a callback but it never came. On the Sunday night the pub was practically out of draught ale - Only one beer on tap and that was past its best

We booked a room for an overnight stay with breakfast at the Black Hat, booking and checking was seamless and the member of staff was excellent, friendly and explained everything. We had the Bird room. Named after a Dicky Bird legendary cricket umpire. This was a king room and was spacious and decorated in soothing heritage colours. Large on suite and the bed was comfy, just enough support from the mattress. Whist above the bar there was little noise in the room. Breakfast was hot, tasty and filling and the young lady serving was excellent. Right in the town centre but also handy for open countryside. All in all a good place to stay.

One little area for possible improvement, out toom overlooked the road and there was a lampost outside. The curtain is slightly away from the window so the room was never properly dark, perhaps a blackout blind.

I think they could do with an extra member of staff on breakfast duty to help the lady who was taking orders, serving and clearing tables. The extra helper could then provide you with a breakfast menu, as there wasn't any chance to read what was on offer and also they could keep on top of refills of coffee and orange juice.

Lovely room. Everything was top quality. Bed and pillows were super comfortable. Very central location on the Main Street but silent at night. We really enjoyed our stay at the Black Hat.

Not a criticism in any way but we did have to wait a long time for our breakfast due to only one member of staff, cooking and serving. When the breakfast did arrive it was lovely. Everything was piping hot and just enough to start our day.
