Blackwood House

Excellent house for large groups.

We were a group of 11 friends, singles and couples -- all retired, who came together for a reunion. The house was great for us to have shared meals, relax and catch up when we were not out sightseeing. The location was well-suited for all that we wanted to do -- and handy to the shops. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space to congregate. The kitchen was fitted out for the size of our group. Those who stayed in the MBR and single rooms were all comfortable. The host was also very attentive to our needs.

Some of the double rooms were a bit small and some bedrooms caught the early morning traffic noise, but overall the positives outweighed the minor inconveniences.

We had a lovely stay. Close to everything and very comfortable.

Lucy was a great host. Communication was quick, helpful and friendly. Location is great. Easy walk into the Main Street of Healesville. House as advertised. There are seven bedrooms and two main bathrooms with an extra standalone toilet. Kitchen/dining room is a large, airy space and is very well equipped for as many guests as can be accommodated. The outside area at the back of the house is a nice space with BBQ and plenty of outdoor seating (all bricked - no grass, though). The very thick walls of the house make it nice and quiet, even though quite a lot of traffic travels along the road outside at certain times of the day. The house looks quite grand in the photos but it has a "lived-in" feel that should deter people with kids from booking it. Our party included our three young grandchildren and it wasfine for them. Overall the nine of us had a lovely weekend away. Thank you, Lucy.

To be clear, the following are not things that we didn't like, more like quirks of a grand old building that need to be taken into account. There are three quite big steps from the front area of the house down to the extension kitchen/dining room area at the back. People with mobility issues might find this a bit challenging. Also, one of the bathrooms is actually an ensuite off a lovely big main bedroom so the other bath/shower/toilet room needs to serve quite a few people unless others use the ensuite as well. That is what we did and we did't find it to be a problem, being all family. The parking spaces at the side of the house are a bit tight but manageable.

Exactly as described, perfect for a large group. Location location. Very clean. Plenty of kitchenware. Great outdoor area with BBQ. Comfy beds. Do agree a railing on the stairs leading to the kitchen would be handy for those mobility challenged. Would absolutely recommend and stay again.

Very comfortable and accommodated our group of 9 very well. Clean, comfortable and spacious including an outdoor area.
