Guest House Avenida

the room was generous and beautiful, with very high ceilings. the floor was once a very gracious apartment, with beautiful wood floors and plaster ealls and ceilings. the decorations are sparse but innocuous. there was space for hanging and folded clothing, as well as a desk and chair where one could work. there is an elevator which is helpful as the rooms are on the 4th floor. there is a kitchen with a nespresso-type espresso machine and toaster, etc, and sunroom. there are two full bathrooms, including one with a bidet. extra towels and toilet paper were provided, as was shower gel and hand soap.

this is not a guest house; it is a hostel. there is no reception, or maps or other help one might expect in a guest house. it is a self-check-in floor of rooms, that is accessed by codes. the room was supposed to have a balcony, which technically it did, but it was a shared balcony and the part assigned to my room was just 3ft wide, wide enough only for a clothes-drying rack. the soap in the bathroom was watered down and there was no shampoo/conditioner for hair. one of the bathrooms is miniscule. there are 7 rooms in this hostel, but no instructions on what to do with overfull garbage cans and no cleaning service in the hostel on weekends nor daily service in the rooms. the bathroom was relatively clean, although there was mould on the shower curtain. the entrance door to the rooms is noisy and tricky to open. and if it's not opened properly, it makes a lot of noise (loud alarm). my room was right near the door, and i had to wear earplugs. unfortunately, the elevator broke and wasn't repaired until after i left (it was a weekend, and the repair people were there Monday morning as i left. and finally, when i asked if i could leave my bags on my departure day, the response came when i had already returned home.

The guest house has a really nice, central location. It was easy to access the building and the room and also everything was really clean! The cleaning staff was also really nice and obliging! We had a wonderful experience.

Great location and very cozy.

Some guests came in at 1am and were incredibly loud. I’m sure it doesn’t happen every night.

At night, there was a noise from the hallway(corridor) into the room. In the hallway, all the doors creak and bang whenever someone comes or goes from the other rooms. There was also noise coming from the shared bathroom into my room. The walls between the room and the corridor are too thin. The room is adjacent to the shared magic room and is also separated from that by a thin wall.

The location was amazing

The furniture was very old, the doors do not close and once you were able to close you will not be able to open them. The staff will roll their eyes if you do not speak Portuguesas. This is something I do not understand, as most tourists visiting Lisbon will not speak Portuguesas!
