The heated foot well under the table was very welcome after walking in the rain. Arai was a perfect host; welcoming, friendly and polite & his beautiful crafts added character to the Inn. The option of an English bed or Japanese bed was a bonus. All the partitions could open up into an open plan area or be closed to create separate rooms. Loved the Japanese bath.

The bunk beds were not firm enough so I made up a Japanese futon on the floor which was much better so I was happy to have the option.

only complaint is it is far from any bus stop

exceptionally cute and comfortable, bunk bed situation. the kotatsu on a cold night was amazing. best part was the guy who runs it and lives on the first floor- he made us tea, chatted with us about the area, and when we forgot something after check-out he drove it to the train station information desk before we even knew we forgot it. cannot thank him enough for his wonderful hospitality and kindness.

Midorian was an ideal stay for us in Nikko. The house itself is a traditional Japanese-style home with tatami mats, futons (and bunk beds), and even a heated kotatsu. It was very well equipped with everything we could need, and we felt warm at night even in the near-freezing Nikko weather. The house is reachable from the nearest bus station via an ~18 min scenic walk. It’s close enough to some famous landmarks too like the Toshogu shrine and Rinnoji temple complex - about a 30 minute walk. Arai-san was also incredibly kind and friendly to us and went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable and asked for nothing in return. I can’t thank him enough. I would highly recommend staying here for a night or two to experience everything Nikko has to offer!

The location is a tad bit far up the hill from the nearest bus station, but is still relatively close to the main temple complex. Just don't bring too many heavy luggages.
