Brathay Hall - Brathay Trust

Brathay Hall is located in a beautiful location right on the edge of Lake Windermere and only minutes from Ambleside. The staff was extremely friendly, the shower had good water pressure, the bed was comfortable. There was coffee and tea and nice community room downstairs to hang out.

Lisa on reception is a fantastic, organised, helpful and efficient member of your team. Our one night stay was absolutely wonderful. We will definitely return.

My room was clean and cosy. I had my room allocation before I arrived, which meant I could go straight to my room on arrival without having to faff around at reception to check in. I will definitely stay again!

Ideal location about one mile from the centre of Ambleside and good for travelling into Langdale.

I was in room 8 in a separate building at the top of a long climb up some steep steps, far from ideal when you're loaded with bike gear & luggage! There is no food available for guests, unless you're part of a traing group. Odd that they can provide food for these groups, but not other guests. However, I could buy a breakfast bag for £6.00, which I declined. I called ahead to ask if they had a bar, I was told they had. Around 17:30 shortly after arriving after a long day on my bike I asked where the bar was located, I was told it was closed until 20:30 and would only be open for an hour! I was told I was in luck as they normally don't open the bar unless they have a training group booked in, wow! I had to get back on my bike to ride into Ambleside to get something to eat & drink. In my opinion this is not a 'hotel', it's a training facility which subsidises their income by selling unoccupied rooms, not great.
