It still has the classic charm about it - a sense of yesteryear

I’ve stayed here many times over the years and it just isn’t being invested in anymore. So many examples; Pool was empty, tennis court covered in moss, restaurant shut, only one open fire in the drawing/waiting rooms, breakfast no longer included, no local produce in the rooms (small bottle of Adelaide based wine provided but we were in the Yarra valley!, Lipton tea rather than boutique, nothing in the fridge, old tv, etc etc). It no longer has any attention to detail or anything that feels classic.

"Disappointing - not worth the money"

5.0

Excellent breakfast, the room was quite pretty.

TV in the room didn't work, no bathrobes despite being told there were, room wasn't cleaned as we hadn't informed the front desk by 9am (we didn't know we had to do this!), hard to find staff when needed (the receptionist left at 5pm and it was as though we had the place to ourselves). We had to let other guests in the front door as they couldn't use the access code after 5pm and there was no one to open the door! Outdoor furniture was very tired.

"Very Good"

7.0

The setting, views and surrounds were amazing. The Chateau had several shared spaces whuch were sumptious to sit in eg the Drawing Room, Library and several nooks where the corridors changed directions. Our room the Stable suite was large, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Complimentary bottle of red wine, chips and kit kats was a nice touch. Overall it was a lovely stay but for the price, there could have been more attention given to the details. I felt the owners banked too much on the fact that the spaces were beautifully appointed but it needed more...

I chose the Stable Room mainly for the spa bath. Unfortunately the spa was not working. I messaged management early that afternoon but did not get a response toll after we had checked out the next morning. It was terribly disappointing as I was unitially going to book the Melba suite which was cheaper and had a much larger room and bed but ended up selecting the Stable Suite for the spa. The property also felt disjointed - the hotel, the winery and the restaurant had a disconnect. We booked high tea at Eleanor's - the setting, decor and views were first class but at $80pp, we had 4 bite sized savoury items and 5 bite size sweet treats each which I felt was really not quite justifiable. It was hubby's landmark birthday and he got an extra plate of goodies (4 items). For that price I really expected far more. There was emphasis on the fact that tea and coffee was bottomless... that certainly did not make up for it. There was a master light switch - none of the lamp switches worked if this was not on. It was located on one side if the bed and sadly we discovered it in the morning. A more detailed instruction sheet would have helped or have this turned on before we arrived. The outdoor seat overlooking the valley was lovely. I would suggest cleaning/ hosing these down before guests arriving. The TV didn't gave any signal. Noting this is not where you would choose to watch telly but if you are going to provide one, it should be in working order.
