Emerson on Hurumzi

Highly recommended for a unique experience living inside Stone Town. It's an old house that's renovated, with artefacts and lots of stairs and corridors. The staff is very helpful and location is great ! All the sights are within walking distance

Unfortunately there was some construction going on when we stayed there for a day. So lots on dust on the bedding, and from the A/c , and some mites seemed to bite us giving us a restless night. Could do with better maintenance.

A beautiful unique property in the heart of Stone Town

A great, authentic feeling spot. The decor is gorgeous, the roof terrace especially, and the staff were lovely. It’s a great vibe and a really cool room. The breakfast is delicious (and on the roof terrace overlooking the sea!) and we would definitely recommend the dining experience in the evening. The location is good too, you are right in the labyrinth of streets but also not far from the harbour front and other popular spots!

There was bizarrely some building work going on during our stay- they appeared to be replacing all the roof tiles on the hotel, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this took place throughout the entire night; hammering, power tools drilling and shouting. We were not warned of this and nor was there much explanation as to why this work took place throughout the night (literally awoken at 3am by drilling). So it might be worth checking this isn’t going to be the case during your stay. A shame it made for a very disruptive second night, but overall would recommend this hotel!

Fantastic staff; they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and entertaining even outside the hotel. Rooms are wonderful stonework. Beds were comfortable. Rooftop dinner highly recommended.

There's no sound insulation (stone floors & walls, open windows, etc.) so bring ear plugs. It's worth it.

We arrived at 430am and they kindly let us in to a room to have a quick nap before we got around to checking in, which was really nice. The location is really good for exploring Stone Town on foot - close to everywhere you'd need to go. The breakfast on the roof top was a nice experience and gives good views as well. We had the dinner one night up on the terrace too which i would advise for a great food selection with some local entertainment. Staff were always very friendly and helpful and helped my partner with her bags (there are quite a lot of stairs). The decor is very unique - it feels quite medieval in some areas which gave it a unique feel.

The first room we were put in only had trellis type walls (i.e no solid wall) - this might appeal to some but we preferred solid walls for sleeping and they happily switched us to an alternative room. There is no door to the bathroom in some rooms (some just have a curtain) so if that is an issue for you then maybe check the rooms prior.

So bad, we checked out and went elsewhere. You may as well stand out in the street waving your wallet in the air, whilst shouting, please rob me.
