The location and comfortable bed.

For the whole duration of our stay we had no hot water- which apparently according to other guests had been like it the day before too. We hadn’t been told this until we tried to shower. The guy who worked behind the desk said he would try and fix the boiler himself but to no avail. And like he said ‘I’m not a plumber but I’ll try’…They didn’t call a plumber out to fix it?! We paid £210 for the night and have just received £36 in a refund! Which is absolutely unacceptable- as a basic a hotel should provide hot water and at least look like they’ve tried to fix the issue or offer some kind of resolution. It felt like because there were only us and one other couple staying the night, it wasn’t worth their hassle of paying to get it fixed there and then. I have never complained about a hotel in my life but this is really poor customer care.

We were informed on arrival they had a problem with the water and we couldn't have a bath, which wasn't a problem. However on our last day we were woken by workmen directly underneath our room talking and using tools that sounded like a grinder. We understand work needed to be carried out but prior notice would have helped. As our room was filled with dust causing me to cough. This resulted in setting the fire alarm off and we had to evacuate the building to find we were the only guests/people that were told to exit, which was strange. As we waited outside we noticed the workmen had sealed the room where they were working and had PPE clothing and dust masks on. The area had tape around it with the wording 'Danger Asbestos Hazard'. This raised concerns so my husband asked the workmen who advised they were sanding some paint. We also informed a member of staff who said the work had to be done. This hasn't spoilt out trip but advance notice of the work and reassurance about the asbestos would have helped. The room could do with a touch up of paint and the shower head changing. A general clean up would possibly improve the rating.

Restaurant food options - not to my taste and erring on the expensive side for the type of dishes served.
