A unique ancient hotel yet so comfortable. Very popular, so busy, but the staff are so attentive and friendly. The only minus is parking which is difficult due to the whole area being ancient so do parking areas really. I thoroughly recommend it though.

A beautiful old building full of character and nooks and crannies. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The village of Dunster is lovely with so much to discover close by. The room that my husband and I stayed in was very stylish, large and clean. The only downside was that it was four flights of stairs up. With us both in our 80's it was sometimes a bit of a struggle but given another week we may well have got used to it! I probably should have checked this when booking. I would recommend the Luttrell Arms to anyone who has a love of history and the English countryside.

"A wonderful lunch and experience"

10.0

We stopped by for lunch on the 22nd July, as a family party of 6 and 5 dogs. We went through to the secret garden, the hotel is beautiful and full of nooks to look into as you weave your way to the garden. The garden is delightful. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff ‘Lucy, who was helpful and very friendly. We ordered pizza, goats cheese salad, child’s fish and chips and truffle fries. It was all well presented and delicious. We were plagued by wasps, but where are you not in the UK when alfresco eating. Again, Lucy was very helpful, replacing a drink that a wasp had fallen into and clearing plates quickly to avoid them returning. A lovely experience and our grandson was impressed with his freshly cooked fish, rather than processed children’s meals which are more often all thats available.

"Go for Drinks rather then Food"

6.0

This is a stunning, old building which has been kept in excellent condition. It’s a must to visit, even if you just have a look around. We used the bar regularly over a week and I think I can best sum it up in our final visit of the holiday. Over the weekend, the hotel serves pizzas in their beautiful garden, overlooking the castle and village. The finishing times for cooking pizzas vary across their Facebook posts and website but generally they fall between 7pm and ‘sundown’. My husband went to order a pizza at 6:40pm. The chef snapped at him, ‘I already have a backlog and I need a break!’ My husband checked with the barman that his understanding that no more orders were being taken was correct. He confirmed it was correct and he was also closing the garden bar - despite the garden being full. We finished our drinks and went inside for dinner. Except, the manager (identified as we had had the misfortune to have come across him before) informed us that we could have either a starter or a main course but not both as a large party had just come in. We explained that we had come inside for something to eat as the pizza orders had just ended in the garden. He replied, ‘You have 3 minutes to decide!’ We decided to have starters. He then asked us for our room number. The fact that he thought we were resident guests, which we weren’t, made it worse in my eyes. On both our interactions with the manager, thankfully brief, members of the bar staff had felt embarrassed enough to apologise to us for the way he had spoken to us when he left. Sadly, this combination of chaos and rudeness was typical of our experience over the week. We kept visiting because it was a beautiful place but I can’t recommend it for food or a stay as you might not get fed!

Secret Garden escape, quiet drink and BBQ Beef Pizza, one of the best since Italy! Hats off to the chef, really put his heart into the preparation and cooking. Really friendly staff, lovely pint of Otter, lovely views, what more could you wish for.

From the very warm welcome to the chatty farewell, everyone we encountered was super friendly and polite. The room was secure, clean and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast with a wide choice to suit everyone. Evening menu has a limited choice, but food good. The hotel has all the old creaking charm you could want, with lots of nooks and crannies to tuck yourselves into for a drink. Cracking beer garden with a castle view. Parking round the corner in the public car park unless you’re lucky enough to get one in the market square high street. We loved every minute of our stay and hope to visit again in the autumn.

"Lack of staff and poor management means poor service."

2.0

The service is non-existent. More a DIY restaurant. It’s an order & pay at the bar - they don’t tell you. The bar is small, with not enough staff, so a real bottleneck. The pizza is upstairs, fetch it yourself. The interior and design is period & classy. The approach to service is cheap. Food - ok at best

"The best pub garden…"

10.0

We stumbled across this place whilst exploring Dunster - what a gem! The secret garden is a brilliant place to enjoy the sun, the beautiful surroundings, and the superb hospitality. The waiting staff were so friendly and very helpful. The pizza, from the outdoor pizza station was first class, and the raspberry cider (with fresh raspberries) was superb! Highly recommended.
