Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel & Spa

Food was 10/10. Not cheap and not much but absolutely amazing. Great location, a short walk into the centre of town, nice grounds.

Decor was tired, shabby in parts. Pool area was basic, there was a steam room and sauna, but no jacuzzi. Rooms were quite small and again, basic. No extras like dressing gowns. Air con was there but it didn’t work and they knew it because a fan was provided in the room, which was broken. Not any better than Premier Inn, but double the price.

Location to the town

Beyond the beautiful facade of the hotel lies a 1960’s building which is barely fit for purpose. The rooms have air conditioning but very few work. They are very hot rooms. We finally managed to change rooms for one with air con. To open the window in the room, you need to stand on a chair. The fan in our bathroom did not work, the hook on the door was hanging off. The decoration was very basic. Breakfast - expensive and poor. No service at all. Staff are ill-trained, no manners or politeness from most. Will not go back.

The beautiful facade of the hotel and its locality is the only saving grace for this hotel. Behind the hotel is a 170’s block of sub-standard rooms. Staff are untrained and lack both manners, lustre and any sense of service. They have lots of rooms with air conditioning but it doesn’t work in them. When we finally managed to get moved to a room with air on, the bathroom fan didn’t work, the hook on the bathroom door was hanging off, you had to stand on a chair to open the window, it was cramped, dated and pretty uncomfortable. The breakfast was expensive but poor, no service at all. This is definitely not 4 star

Location and parking

Expected to stay in the main hotel. However are room was at least 150 meters walk from reception. On arrival to room on a very hot humid day we tried to turn on air con only to find it did not work. Also the bathroom (no windows) extractor fan was not working. The room had not been properly maintained or serviced. Our bathroom had one half used toilet roll. There was no telephone in the room to report these issues and being the furthest point from reception did not help. Furthermore our keys did not work on external door. You do not expect to have to report so many failings.

Ambience of the hotel, friendly staff and SPA facilities

Very hot during the night and the air con did not do its job ( understand partly due to age of hotel etc...) Fan provided but didn't really help. This was the only reason from providing top marks. That said have stopped in the hotel several times in the past and would book again the future...The staff are a great credit to the Alverston Hotel

Location you are able to park your car right by your room. Lovely sausages for breakfast. Short nice walk over the river into Stratford
