Newton Country Hotel Burton Upon Trent

I was dissapointed with my stay, i have stayed in many Mercure Brands and this is not to the same standard. The bar food is of poor quality and i would not eat there again. The room is nice and clean. The wifi is a pain to sign up to, whats wrong with having a simple sign up form. If you need to pay for Breakfast don't bother, its poor quality and not a great variety. No yogurts, just simple white bread, I personally hate when hotels have big pots of jam that everybody puts there spoon into.

The food at dinner and breakfast was not good. On arrival we were not informed that, due to a large coach party, there would be no room in the restaurant the next night, this just happened to come up in conversation. We had not planned to go out to dinner but we're forced to even though the restaurant we managed to book at the last minute was a drive away, so only one of us was able to have a glass of wine, and it was pouring with rain However this did us a favour as the food at the Boot in Repton was so superior to the hotel. Also due to the coach party breakfast service on Saturday was a disaster, with items not available and a long wait for those we asked for. The member of staff serving in the bar on Friday night was surly to the point of rudeness. The room was very hot and there was no air conditioning as stated in your hotel description and the controls on the shower were difficult to operate as they were stiff due to age, and the non slip service in the bottom of the bath was inadequate. I would not return to this hotel and would be reluctant to book another Mercure hotel in the future. I'm not sure why this hotel has such a high rating on your website, or why you continue to book rooms there, this would make me reluctant to use your website in the future

A lovely hotel but room had no shower and only solution was to use, and move between, two rooms in different areas.

Had high hopes for this place but I was let down. As a regular traveller I see many hotels, but none in as poor a state of repair as this. The heating didn't work, I was given a rattly fan heater to use which kicked out a cloud of dust when I turned it on. The sheets were dusty, my room was not clean and didn't get cleaned. The hotel is dark, dingy and dirty. Many light bulbs are broken and it feels tired and unloved The food was inedible and although I paid for breakfast, I didn't risk it when I found they didn't know what lactose intolerance meant and tried to give me a cheese starter I didn't order. They also put butter on my steak which was inedible due to being so Tough. I sent a complaint email but got a brusque reply. Don't waste your money on this dire hotel. A suggestion to Mercure, spend some money on replacing your staff and renovate the hotel top to bottom.

Room was shocking, bathroom looked like something out of a horror movie. I left the hotel and stayed with a friend after this, didn't even wait for reception staff as was late at night. I hear other rooms are lovely but this was room was in dire need of a refurb.

Breakfast was AWFUL - get down an hour or so before closing if you want anything

Stayed for 1 night on stopover staff very friendly,room dated but clean good position ,breakfast lovely .would stay again

We had a very pleasant large room with views over the well kept gardens and was close to the Derbyshire countryside and National Trust properties that we wanted to see.

brilliant stay, hotel has fabulous grounds, and gorgeous breakfast. reception were friendly and informative, would definitely stay again.
