Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel

Stayed in room 139, comfortable and well appointed, good shower and bath. Swimming pool at a nice temperature. At Dinner Food excellent but took some time to be served .Brakfast was also excellent, with a very good choice of hot and cold food and fruit, complimented by the friendly, efficient and helpful manner of Adnan - a credit to All Accor. At reception I was impressed by DG for the qualities he brought to the front desk. I paid, through All Accor by telephone, a not inconsequential sum for 2 nights B&B with dinner on the first night and thought (as this was our 3rd visit) I knew what to expect ( 2 courses subject to a price cap). On arrival I was told dinner would be a main and ice cream, but when I ordered Dinner I found out that is was only 1 main course and that was subject to a £22 limit. The confusion caused to myself, my wife receptionist (not DG) and barman was the fault of All Accor -who apparently have a different interpretation according to where and through whom the booking was made. All Accor are playing fast and loose with the definition of dinner AND I WOULD WARN THOSE WHO BOOK TO ENDEAVOUR TO ASCERTAIN WHAT INTERPRETATION IS BEING USED. The actions of All Accor, in this instance, would at best be misleading and at worst disingenuous. not the actions of a supposedly prominent, international hotel chain.

The two young ladies on reception we very helpful & polite, & the lady on breakfast was great, the large interactive tv was very good

We were allocated room 201 on arrival, when we went to the second floor landing you could smell a musty damp smell & there was a de humidifier on the landing indicating they had a moister issue, then when we entered our room the smell hit you full on damp smell dreadful, the room just felt grotty, the radiator had a beard popping out the top full of years of fluff, skirting boards dusty, & it was a compact double bed which was way to small for two people, & the ceiling had peeling wall paper which was no doubt due to the leaky flat roof above, then I went back to reception to request a room move which they politely did room was much better apart from the grotty dated bathroom & no shower curtain, the room was just too small for the room rate we paid

The staff were friendly.

My bedroom was dated and even had mould in it. Terrible bedroom.

My wife is coeliac and the choice of meals was limited but we were confident that she was catered for correctly. Her breakfast in the morning was cooked to order direct from the kitchen avoiding the buffet. The waiter who served us was particularly on the ball with her needs and was extremely helpful.

All was fine.

At the hotel for a Murder Mystery evening which was really good. Food was mediocre. Pool was taken over with swimming lessons Unfortunately got up in the morning and discovered that 3 of us had money stolen from our purses. One had a gold bangle taken. Other guests had money stolen too. Staff weren’t interested. Will wait to see if they investigate and if they reimburse us but highly doubtful. Do not recommend at all. Sad end to a nice evening.
