Preston Park Hotel

Stayed there for a night & found the staff very accommodating. I had a great check-in & out. I was also looked after @ about 2.30am, by 2 young gentlemen who worked there, as they gave me a large piece of cake to get me out of a diabetic hypo.They wouldn't let me pay for it either. My room was spotless, with a very comfortable bed, was so comfortable I overslept for breakfast. Great walking distance from the station also.

Everything was great, no complaints

Look, £72 inc breakfast, I wasn't expecting Hilton standards. It was a nights stay, clean sheets, clean room, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer plenty of mood lighting for evening. Bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water for showers, chain lock on bedroom door. We were out all day it was somewhere to lay our heads for a night. Hotel is having renovation works as I write this. Bus stop outside hotel straight to beach front/town.

We had room 215 which was over the landing/reception area and I'm not sure what time exactly but around 2am an old style bell went off (I can only assume it was someone ringing to get in the hotel) which was very loud like it was in our room, the corridor/stair well was creeky and dated with mismatched carpets, you could hear people during the night moving around.. Dated brown furniture with warped doors that wouldn't close properly. The TV was a bull ache to operate, I'm not sure if the batteries were dead or the TV was on its last legs, it had a mind of it's own and the volume control would suddenly turn up to 38 on one press (gave up with it in the end) The staff we spoke to seemed to be in control and informative although the reception lady could do with smiling on the meet and greet. Much better hotels on the beech front at double/treble the cost. If you're only staying for a night or 2 and it's somewhere to get your head down then this, I would say is a cheap option worth considering. Longer stay, where you want super comfort quiet time, extra pillows/towels, body creams a plenty, massage area and gym, with triple glazing head for 4-5* and pay the price, Double Tree is waiting for your booking. We will return

Secure rooms with chain on the door. Met by a lovely cat at bedtime who entered our room for a look round and enjoyed a fuss. I have cats of my own, and can’t resist stroking any cat.

Had no sleep due to traffic noise and people walking along the passage outside. The music was too loud as well, and had a job holding a conversation. One of our party is a tall man and kept hitting his head on the low set lights. Maybe they could be raised up a foot or so.

Location and food

Deceiving Booking system. 1, I booked for 1 double bedroom The other room 1 room with twins bed and it was shown exactly to my preference but the rooms were booked with 2 bedroom with one double bed each which didn’t fulfil my needs.

Cleanliness and location

Shower was awful - water dribbled out Reception staff very moody

Friendly staff. Good parking. Good breakfast! Clean enough, tidy. Good amenities such as shower gel tea coffee water included. It had quite a few "qwerks" such as the bathroom not having a vent or window that opened, the shower being pretty terrible, some exposed wiring, etc.

Shower had no hot water the day of arrival. This was fixed but friend had to have a cold shower. Even when fixed the shower had poor water pressure and it was impossible to get the right water temp. Borrowed an iron which leaked and had no ironing board. Mattress not very comfortable.
