Homewood Suites by Hilton Baton Rouge

Location: easy to reach, nearby malls and restaurants, and very easy to start from here by car to visit the city (State Capitol, Garden district, houses at Lakeshore Drive etc.). Free spacious parking at the accommodation. Very friendly staff at reception desk. We felt welcome. Hot water in the shower.

HYGIENE! Because of the carpet in the hallway and room (according to us, a carpet is always a wrong idea when you want floors to be clean and to be kept clean), it felt dusty and musty. The carpet is also worn out. "Faded glory" is what this hotel screams. There was dirt everywhere, little papers, plastics and also a used cotton swab in the hallway. Perhaps this tells also much about the people staying here, but when after a day out, the cotton swab is still there, it says also something about the cleaning crew. In the room, fabric chairs at the dining table, with stains and completely worn seats. On the carpet floor next to the bed a spot of 4cm of....? It looked like blood....we putted a towel on it during our stay. Everything in the room just needed a big clean up (wash the windows once in a while, remove dust from the air conditioner) and/or renovation of stuff. The name says 'Hilton', but this is definitely not a real Hilton-style hotel. And why is it that people want to go to breakfast in their pyjamas, sometimes in extremely short pants, with an unwashed face and hair not combed?! I wish hotels would not tolerate this. We added several pictures, but sadly they are not visible in Booking.

Obviously instead of looking at just the overall rating when I booked this hotel a few days ago, I should have looked at the most recent reviews! Would never have booked this place had I done so. In the past we have usually loved the Hilton brand and this one is near the luncheon meeting I had today, 10/21. It’s also near a number of restaurants and several nail salons and I wanted to get a mani/pedi this morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was pretty good, but I missed the part about $5 a night for parking? We have never seen a charge for parking at this type of hotel with lots of spaces!? We check out in the morning so I guess we will see it then. We used 8,000 points and for 2 weekday nights it was still $380.16 and I’m aware there are always all sorts of room taxes, but this hotel has seen better days. The carpet is unraveling in spots, this is supposed to be a handicap accessible room and yet it has the lowest toilet we’ve ever seen. I’ve had 3 operations on my right hip in the past 6 months and squatting so low is difficult and the toilet actually rocks! There’s also a sewer smell in the bathroom. The sliding closet doors are off the track. I’m attaching some pictures. The desk chair is peeling on the seat…it looks like they picked it up from the side of the road! I will say the beds are comfortable and the linens are soft on the skin. There’s a TV in the living room and bedroom but they aren’t very large and don’t get much in the way of channels, although they do have HBO/MAX. Basically, like all hotels and apartment buildings, it needs some maintenance and upgrading ASAP. Although free finally reading the most recent reviews, it sounds like it could have been much worse!

Facilities need to be updated badly.
