Authentic traditional hotel. Very friendly staff - fantastic to have access to private onsen.

The room was as advertised, but the futons are very thin - so not very comfortable.

The ability to access a private onsen was fantastic. The staff were very helpful. There are shared bathrooms on each floor, split into male and female. They were clean. Japanese rooms means sleeping on thin tatami mats, but the provided ones were fairly comfortable. The room is huge. The price was very fair. Overall I'd be happy to stay here again to visit Kamikochi.

No major issues, just things to be aware of. The onsen water is quite sulphurous, in case you're sensitive to that. This may just be the norm in the area. Access to bathrooms, microwaves, toiletries etc is via public areas.
