Could have done with air conditioning, plus a fridge in the room would have been nice . Pillows not very comfortable.

Forest of Arden hotel came to the rescue when our original hotel (Albrighton Hall - Shewsbury) cancelled our booking on the day of arrival. I had remembered Forest of Arden from a previous work visit and although further out from the location we were visiting I decided to go somewhere I knew and could trust. The hotel found us a lovely room for three of us, very spacious and clean and very large comfortable bed and great value for money. We had a nice lunch (the club sandwich was excellent) and breakfast the following morning. The EV charging was also an added bonus. Thank you Forest of Arden, the welcome from all the staff and the facilities such as the pool and the charging meant we were very happy.

It’s a bit messy at breakfast, not the staff fault at all, they were working very hard, but I was surprised how some of the other guests left their tables, with food on the floor etc.

Visited to play 2 rounds of golf and a 1 night stay, the golf was sub standard. Played the Arden course and the front 9 played well, back 9 (the deer park) was terrible, the whole back 9 was like a bomb had gone off and everything was dead. The other shorter course was much like a municipal course anywhere. So so. The food and drink: be prepared to pay through the nose for drinks.. 4 drinks… £37.. (lager, 2 g&t, 1 wine) extortionate. The food was ok.. but again, we had a sandwich on an arrival and it was massively overpriced.. evening meal was a buffet style which was standard, chilli, curry etc. Hotel room was tired as was reception and all public areas.. like early 2000’s decor. Pretty similar to belfry in all aspects.. food and drinks too expensive, tired old hotels. Except the 2 belfry courses are better. We will not be rushing back.

Stayed on the 2 day golf package in a twin room. The check-in process was good and the room perfectly adequate. As mentioned in previous reviews the lack of air conditioning is a negative but we brought along a couple of fans to circumvent that. The only other observation was a lack of a plug to the side of one bed, we had to pull the bed out and remove the lamp plug for a phone charger. The breakfast was good, although slightly underwhelmed by the choice of options on the set menu, with a large supplement being applied to the steak. Ignoring the vegetarian option we were basically left with one real option. We played the Aylesford course on the first day. The rough, which is literally 5 feet off the fairway, is so long that finding slightly errant balls was virtually impossible and play from groups ahead was slow due to the amount of searching needed. I lost count of the number of balls we lost and others that we found. Not a great experience, although I did manage to birdie the stroke index 1 hole :) However, the Arden course is a cracking challenge and despite a myriad of bunkers I really enjoyed the round. Noticed afterwards there was a dropping area for the 8th hole but we never saw that. Would look to return, maybe when the weather is a little cooler but would be reluctant to play the Aylesford unless the rough has been brought upto the same standard as the Arden. It’s just too penal for the “easier” course.

The staff were great, especially the lady on the front desk of the swimming pool this morning!

Friendliness, helpfulness, went out of their way to help. Very beautiful setting and location great.
