Royal Bar & Hotel

The location was great, so close to the lake and the Temple of the Tooth, both 5 minutes within walking distance. Yet it wasn’t noisy being so close to everything. Breakfast was really good too.

We loved the atmosphere of the hotel; great period decor, an airy courtyard for a cold beer after a hot day of sightseeing, friendly and helpful staff, lovely restaurant terrace for breakfast (which was very generous) and comfortable beds and aircon.

We couldn't seem to get the hot water to work in the shower, and as we were road facing, it was a little loud in the mornings as the street came to life, but this would not put us off staying again. We really liked this hotel.

A lovely place to stay in the centre of Kandy. The hotel has a great sense of history and many antique pictures and memorabilia from colonial times. The bedrooms also retain a wonderful sense of times past, but with all modern amenities. The internal courtyard is great for dinks and meeting people. The 1st floor restaurant serves high quality food (and had a great wine list too). There’s a delightful first door terrace where you can dine and people watch on the bustling street below.

Nothing! I can’t wait to come again.

La décoration est magnifique. L’hôtel est une ancienne demeure familiale, des’objets anciens mis au goût du jour grâce à une subtile alliance de matériaux nobles et de béton ciré.

Loved loved loved the old style building, like stepping back in time. The staff were brilliant, and the location perfect. great breakfast too!

Camera in stile coloniale, molto pulita e dotata di tutti i comfort, anche il bidet! Colazione ricca e molto buona. Posizione davvero centralissima, si può girare a piedi. La sera c’è anche la sicurezza, anche se comunque si trova in una zona sicura e ricca di servizi. Consigliato!!

The old world charm is oozing from this hotel. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The location is so central to everything in Kandy. It's a short walk to anywhere that is of interest. The street that it is on is extremely quiet at night. We had to get the early morning train to colombo so the staff organised a packed breakfast for us and a tuk tuk to get us to the station. Great service.

The bathroom was very tired and mouldy. I couldn't get the extraction fan to work at all.

The Royal Bar and Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Kandy, in walking distance to the tooth temple, lake and downtown markets. The breakfast on the balcony in the upper floor is nice and was tasty. The whole interior still has a bit of colonial flair, which is why we wanted to stay here. I was even offered to play the old piano. So, our expectations were matched.

The rooms are small (as correctly advertized) and the view from our room was not great, but that's how it is on the backside of the houses in the city. The rooms were not ready when we wanted to check-in early (the hotel offered early check-in times at 11AM), but we were offered a welcome drink until they were cleaned within 10 minutes.
