Viva Maya by Wyndham, A Trademark All Inclusive Resort

For any adrenaline lovers looking for a unique activity right at the resort, trapeze might just be your thing! As a beginner, I really enjoyed being expertly guided through the initial knee hang sequence and within a week progressing to getting caught by a professional catcher! Valentina, Mara, Krystal and Bachita were so lovely and helped me feel safe, comfortable and confident each step of the way. It was also awesome to watch them train for their upcoming performances. Thank you so much ladies!

We took 33 clients to the Wyndham Viva Maya in Playa del Carmen last week. One of our group fell on the dark, unlit path and broke her arm in four places requiring surgery. The hotel claimed to have 24 hour medical help but that wasn't true at all. There was complete lack of help from the hotel and one of our other guests (a Canadian RN) had to get her to the hospital and advocate from her. We never heard from any hotel medical staff for the full week we were there. In the subsequent days the hotel never checked on her. She's considering suing the hotel - the area was dark and a major trip hazard. We absolutely WOULD NOT recommend this hotel. Mediocre food, terrible service no drinks or water, coffee in the room. Lowest quality soap and no other products, difficulty booking the a la carte restaurants. The beach is nice and it’s not the hotel’s fault that you are constantly being asked for money but the long lines for the bar service made the whole thing difficult. No matter how many times I asked to speak to a manager they never let me or gave me any contact information after 8 requests. Rooms were okay but there was no way to change the temperature. The feeling was that all of the Caribbean is booked for the winter and they don't have to provide anything but the basics as they will sell out. When I queried their service they all but said that to me. Just a head's up as there might be some of you considering this package.

This resort is one of our favourites! Our third time back. The staff are truly so patient and kind. Betinha, Mara, Valentina, Matt and Krystal at the trapeze are very fun, patient and extremely skilled! Convinced all of our family (6 of us ranging from 13- 78 years of age) to try. None of us regret it! Rodolfo on the catamaran and archery was another stand out staff member. You are all amazing and we can not wait to return. Thank you foe the amazing memories xo

Best trapeze team and dancers in last 15 yrs Wow this is by far the most amazing and talented trapeze team Viva Maya has had in the 15+ years I have been going here. I do flying trapeze at home and this team is beyond incredible and has the ability to truly teach. Not only are they talented but they are so kind and great workers; allowing catching when guest are ready even if it’s a few days in a row, they even stay the full session so guests can keep flying. Betinha the head of the trapeze team has done such an amazing job with new staff; their own flying is incredible and her ability to teach everyone from fresh beginners to experienced flyers is an absolute dream. The whole team from Mat with his amazing energy and catching skills, to sweet Krystal who will amaze you with her hair hanging show, Mara with her amazing strength and her chain routine, and of course Valentina who exudes her love of Ariel routines you can feel her joy and love of the sport when she performs. Please keep this trapeze team I cannot imagine how they could ever be replaced; they are irreplaceable. Out side of their flying trapeze talents their Ariel performances are the best I have ever seen at any hotel. Dancers: Mauricio has done wonders for the dancers. While it used to be embarrassing to watch the shows I was now excited to see all the performances. Not only has the choreography drastically improved along with the costumes the dancers were outstanding. This is the most talented bunch of dancers I have seen; everyone of them was amazing. Charby, Lorisse, Lucy, Diego, Andryck, Andres, Fabiano, nisi. Animation: I always love the crazy games that are hosted. Special shout out to Ronaldo, Laura, Carolina who were always so nice and greeted me with big smiles every day. I looked forward to them hosting games. Sports Team: I love the water sports so I was very excited to see the amazing Johnathan back overseeing and had a great catamaran ride with Rodolfo. Members Staff: Antonio at the members beach area is such an amazing staple always so pleasant and getting drinks delivered on the beach. Then of course there is Noe in the members buffet area who remembers my drink and has it ready for me at meals.

Food: food was good however I have been to a few other resorts in Mexico where food was a lot better. I didn’t have any massive complaints but not the biggest selection compared to what I’ve seen. Breakfast they had: omelettes, eggs, pancakes, french toast, yogurt, cereal, saw bacon but they seamed to always be out by the time i got up to the line:( Not a lot of meet options for breakfast. Lunch: the pool bar lunch was for sure the best. amazing oven baked pizza, french fries, nachos, guac, pasta salad, rice. Dinner: the buffet wasn’t anything super special but was sufficient. We went to 2 alacarts. first being Mexican which was amazing! staff made the experience fun and food was amazing. The second was italian which i was quite disappointed by and none of us really enjoyed the food there. Overall they do have reasonable options that everyone can find something but not a massive selection. Rooms: Our room was clean, everything worked nothing was broken. Safe worked just fine and the maids cleaned each day supplying us with new towels and eveytging. no complaints here. Pool: there is the main pool with the pool bar and another adults only pool. The adults only pool was very quiet and almost no one was there any day which can be nice for some quiet. The main pool is where they had any entertainment and foam pool parties. Only complaint about the main pool is there was a smell of vomit for the entire time of our stay. It wasn’t that bad and was very easily avoidable so don’t let that put you off from booking but I did want to mention. Otherwise everything was super clean all around. Entertainment: Was a little disappointed by the day time entertainment at the pool. Was with a group of young girls and we wanted to have fun and there wasn’t much. One day had a foam party which was a lot of fun but the other days had next to nothing. Not a lot of people hung out at the pool bar those days. At night they had live music a few nights which were done really well and they also had shows a few nights. We didn’t stay to watch for long but they seam to be pretty good. Staff: in comparison to everywhere else i’ve been the staff weren't super eager to help or overly friendly. The breakfast was very self serve in the sense you get your own water and everything. out of 6 days there was only 1 day someone actually offered me coffee with my breakfast which was disappointing otherwise i didn’t mind it. Lobby: the bar at the lobby made the best drinks!! Staff here was a bit more friendly. Lines did sometimes get long but they had 3 people working the best they could. Lots of seats to hang out and they have a sports bar upstairs which normally had loud music with lots of dancing and was a fun vibe. The resort overall was very quiet. The music didn’t affect sleep in any way. As soon as you walked back downstairs you could barely hear it anymore. Coffee bar: had the best coffee. lots of options. with snacks smoothies and more. The smoothies weren’t my favourite ever but they were pretty deacent. Had a bit of a milky taste to them but not in a bad way. Frappes were my go to the entire time! Beach: the beach was clean. had a bit of seaweed some days but they work hard to keep it clean and they can only work so hard. only 1 day had seaweed in the water the rest were pretty good! Waves were quite strong for a few days but all depends on the time you go. Overall if you’re looking for somewhere as a cheaper option this is definitely a great place to consider. If you’re willing to spend a bit more money I do think there is better options but depends on how much you want to spend.

I cannot fault our recent trip to Viva Maya in any way! The whole complex is so clean, the shrubbery and trees were so well kept and gave a great nature feel throughout and being an all inclusive you worry about the food but the restaurants to pick from all served great food with lovely service and the buffet gave an amazing selection too. What also made the trip so unforgettable was the staff throughout the hotel, how friendly and accommodating they were and one person in particular was Marta from guest services. She was extremely helpful with bookings for food, recommendations for places outside the hotel, excursion tips aswell and her English was probably also the best i heard the entire time i was there but everytime that we went to Guest services she was always there with a smile and more than happy to help!
