Rendezvous Oldtown Chiangmai

The place is a bit rundown and dingy for my liking, but we only slept there, so we didn't let that bother us much. We got info for a cooking school there (asia scenic) and its also part of the Sunday walking market (heaven for gifts and cheap finds). Our room also came with breakfast and that wasn't bad at all. They have wifi, which worked pretty well. your by a temple and it was amazing to be in our room and hear the monks chant.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 4 nights during our Chiang Mai stopover. I wish we had spent our money somewhere else. We did not receive a warm welcome or a smile from the guys who worked behind the counter. I constantly felt like we were bothering them. So miserable. Didn't give us any information on the area or tours, so we booked these ourselves. We arrived at 12:30/1pm. It said online that rooms are ready to check in from 10am. Got there and the room wasn't ready for another hour. We waited and waited until we were finally allowed upstairs. It annoys me that I spent my money at this guesthouse, when I'm sure others would have been more welcoming. The rooms are clean, which is a good thing I guess. Good location too. We also booked an early taxi to the airport through the hostel which was 350baht. This was a lot considering our taxi there was 160baht. When the taxi dropped us off, she asked to be paid the fare, which was 250baht. We had been done with another 100baht by the guesthouse! Very annoying!

Dunno what the other reviewer is talking about. They must have redone the place since they were here. The accommodations are very nice, especially for the price. It's on a nice quiet side street near a small local market and some very nice healthy restaurants. Also only a few minutes (or less) walk from the weekend market which is very cool! We stayed two nights and highly recommend coming during the weekend so you can see the market. Sometimes the staff (a local family) was extremely pleasant and other times not so much, but all around a good guest house.

And lizards in the wall. This place is not the best you are going to find out there, not the worst. At least is quiet. The room is fine but the bathroom is pretty scary, there is no shower. I mean, you just shower on the corner, and leave the whole bathroom wet, not a curtain or anything. I had 2 visitors (centipedes) the first 2 times I flushed the toilet. After that, the lizard in the wall did not impress me that much. Breakfast is ok, you can choose from 6 or 7 predefined combinations they have. If you want to have lunch there is ok as well, good prices. They charge 50 baht per kilo for the laundry, which I found more expensive than other places. It's conveniently located in the center of "the square" and everything is accessible with a short walk. Shops, restaurants in the area. They have rooms with fan and air conditioning. The ones appearing on booking are only those with air conditioning. You can contact them directly if you want to save some money and ask for the ones with a fan only. At the beginning they were very welcoming, but after paying all the money they were not nice any more. I had the feeling like I was bothering them all the time whenever I had to ask a question or ask for a favor...
