North Stafford Hotel Town Centre

On arrival you could see the hotel was filthy the stairs had not been cleaned and paint work is in terrible state of repair. Upon going into our room the first thing I noticed were hairs on the bed, pulled the curtains back the windows were so filthy you couldn’t see out and one was broken so you couldn’t open it. Went to open the bathroom window and it was boarded up, the toilet leaned heavily to the left and there were stains in the bottom and sides of the bath!! I went to use the toilets just off reception before going out and the smell was absolutely appalling!! Although the staff were friendly this hotel is in an awful state considering what we paid for a one night stay I expected a lot better. I will never stay again

I try to be as fair as possible, as i stay in a lot of budget hotels, and generally award 4/5 if they deliver what i need - comfortable room and bed, nice bathroom with shower adequate heating, good location is a plus. This place was grim. It was Fawlty Towers without the humour. The list of reasons i wont be back is extensive. The geating did not work. The room was cold. We found a tiny plug in radiator which warmed things up after about an hour. I did not want to leave it on overnight, so it was cold in the morning. There is no heating at all in the bathroom. The taps are backwards, so hot is actually the cold feed and vice versa. Before realising this, i filled the kettle with hot water...what a horrible coffee that was. The sink drain was partly blocked, and did not clear quickly. If you ran the tap for 10 seconds (teeth, shave, etc) the water backed up and you have to wait 30 seconds plus until it clears from the bowl. Floors were very squeaky, and those in other rooms were easily heard, as was noise from other guests late at night. While price was good, adding parking £5 and internet £7 (seriously?) boosts the price by £12. I decided not to pay for wifi. The area the hotel is in is in need of serious attention. As is the hotel...i half expected to see a little boy riding a trike muttering "redrum" I am tempted to seek a refund, but instead we chalk this up to experience and move on.

Friendly Staff. Central location. We were not bothered by the near by railway but by the noise from other rooms; poor noise insulation. Black mould on the window frame was worrying and showed the dilapidated condition of the fabric of the building.

The hotel was part of the former Britannia group, so needing renovation (e.g. wallpaper peeling, decor shabby, etc.) but more importantly, no Wi-Fi key provided). On the plus side: very comfy bed.

Bed was uncomfortable. Ordered a double room and ended up with a twin. Not enough towels for two people. Check in area stunk of weed.
