The Whitlock

Beautiful outdoor space. Lovely restaurant on site. Very friendly and helpful staff.

The Whitlock is in a fantastic location within downtown Lenox. If you like to walk and are visiting Tanglewood, it's a beautiful, long walk (1.5-2 miles each way). Beats sitting in traffic. Given the after effects of covid, services, in terms of meals, are limited at the Whitlock. That is also true for restaurants in Lenox with a few places closed Mon-Wed. The place is clean, maybe a bit worn.

The Whitlock is a nice place to stay in the center of Lenox. On the plus side, the service is excellent, I slept very comfortably, and several fine restaurants are within walking distance. On the minus side, the walls are thin and you can hear conversations in other rooms clearly. Also, there are no refrigerators in rooms, and there is no elevator. In addition, when I booked the room a few months ago, a hot breakfast was available daily. It's now available only on weekends. Still, I have no regrets about staying here.

Beautiful place to stay and convenient to the town. Nice coffee and muffins and what not in the morning. Currently the restaurant and bar are opened only limited days but those are lovely too. Check in has to be done at a sister property, but it's really close by and not a big deal.

Absence of public transportation. Absence of local taxis, near absence of Lyft, inadequate local bus service, inaccessible car rental, non-existence of Uber, etc. As we did not have our own car or obtain a rental, we were unable to see many of the historic sights which brought us to the Berkshires for our vacation. We arrived on Sunday when Hertz was closed and so could not be driven there directly from NYC. On Monday we could not arrange transportation from Lenox, where we were staying to the Hertz rental in Pittsfield. We took the #2 bus to the ITC for our return to NYC as we could not arrange private transportation from Lenox. There was no Hertz signage or office at the ITC. There was no taxi or taxi signage at the ITC.

Good location… however, the TV system is a disaster. The tv never worked properly. We were told it was a property-wide problem. Plus, in order to use streaming services, we were required to use our OWN accounts. Who checks into a hotel and brings all of their usernames and passwords with them?? We could only remember our Netflix info. AND, we very nearly left without logging out, which would have allowed future guests to tap into our Netflix account. Not a well organized system at all. Also, we were never told there was no elevator or someone to help us with our bags. I have severe mobility issues, so it was tricky for me to go up and down, to and from our 3rd floor room. Check-in takes place in another location, so there was no one at the Whitlock to greet us or show us to our room, or to help us with our bags, and no manager on site to potentially put us in a more suitable room, given my health issues. These are extremely important details that should be listed up front when booking a room on Expedia.

The staff are wonderful; responsive, friendly, helpful, accomodating. The food is unique, delicious and healthy. I plan to return and to recommend this lovely retreat to friends.
