Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa

Visited as a family with our two children 7 and 4 for a weekend adventure to celebrate one of their birthdays. Location is really good for a base to explore the area and lots of attractions and things to do (we ran out of time). The hotel itself when you turn up has a tonne of free parking and looks really nice and enkeeping the area. As you enter the reception is clean and a mix of modern touches and traditional Scottish themes. The pool area was clean, the pool was great although did get busy the Sunday with spa guests. The sauna was really hot and steam room again a good temperature. The bar area was lovely as was the restaurant again inkeeping with the rest of the hotel decor. The restaurant dinner menu was expensive (one of the only negatives) It cost us £300 to eat and drink as a family for our two night stay (we don't stay in hotels much so can't compare to others but this seemed alot). The buffet breakfast was spot on everything you could want really nice butcher sourced sausages, potato scones, eggs, bacon, beans, haggis, a full cereal bar, fresh porridge, fruit, various pastries and other items available at a fee. The room itself was a large size family room alot of old wooden furniture again inkeeping with the hotel decor but it was worn and felt like the room out of everything needed a bit of paint and a freshen up (would it stop us staying again definitely not). The beds seemed again abit worn but we're they so u comfortable you couldn't sleep or get comfortable; NO but again feel a topper or newer mattresses would add to the hotel experience. Overall we had a great stay though and would happily use again. A special mention must go to all the staff however!!!! The reception staff always smiled and greated us as we passed through and would chat with the kids. The bar and restaurant staff couldn't do enough to help you if you needed anything.

Having stayed in the area for the first time, my wife and I used the hotel as a base to get out and about. We wanted to make sure I did some review of sorts, but a little taken a back from some negative posts when I got onto trip advisor. Look, each to their own, was my thought - some I could sympathise, but ithers - you just cant please everyone - Dont let it put you off! Is the hotel tired... yes the rooms are, also had an issue of round pin plugs near the bed so no UK socket for my cpap machine near the bed (yes although still young, I sleep like a fighter pilot - its hereditry - before the old man thoughts creep in). A tad bizarre as never had this issue anywhere in the uk or abroad, no sockets near the bed...4 star or above but is what it is (I'd advise raising any CPAP need ahead of stays and they can accomodate in advance). Staying two nights, it was just the rooms that were dated - but really comfortable to be fair. The staff are welcoming and the absolute driving factor of not leaving to book elsewhere. We were worried.at first about machine use/trips on wires across floor from sockets not ideal for the hotels grading... But the hotel couodnt do enough, very sympathetic, attentive, hard working and a good sense of humour all round in your hotels frontline staff. Overall the medical need, wasnt raised in advance tbf... so my issue not the hotels, although bizarre as said, regarding bedside plug sockets. We decided to still stay, purposely for the way the duty manager jack treat the whole issue because he wanted to and not because thought he had to. On another note, the bar/restaurant was busy, but always treat with professionalism and a smile... this had my wife and I so relaxed, they work very hard in their roles and deserve that credit. I never waited too long for anything, even though they were busy. The restaurant also, as the food was lovely and although had only reserved a meal first night, we ate again second as loved it. A very relaxed environment, with lovely people - helping us enjoy our anniversary yesterday - room 405! The Spa was superb, too... steam room was spot on, the sauna a little crowded when no more than four get in - as can get busy in that small space but free (as was the pool when stay in the hotel). The spa area was spotless, really enjoyed it... but cant comment on treatments as we didnt try? Please pass on a massive thank you to Jack, plus all the team, 100% excellent and worthy of recognition. Which made it a very comfortable and memorable stay - keep up the good work!

Staff was amazing. Breakfast was delicious.

WiFi may as well not exist. Abysmal. And the signal around the hotel is near 0 as well so i had NO connection. Guess how much Premium WiFi costs. 7.99 for 30 MEGABYTES of data.

The location is perfect. The staff are all well trained and the culture to provide a good service is engrained. Spa and gym is very good. Iron and Ironing board in room is great! Bed and pillows seriously comfy.

Minor gripes, The hotel is showing its age in parts. General wear. Windows do not have much sound insulation and I was aware of the nearby motorway through the night. Bath drainage was partially blocked and the kettle plug was loose and dubious connection.

Came for a spa day with my friend, our treatments by Helen and Claudia were amazing and our food was great, our server Glynis was so lovely and accommodating.

Lovely place, in a couple location. The staff were exceptional. Everyone of them was helpful and so friendly.
