The Cross Keys

Room was fine, clean and functional , in room guide book said checkout at 11 but TC said 10 which we missed as booked whist talking to reception - reception didn’t mention checkout time. Loud bang on the door 10:05 saying we should have checked out already . When we mentioned to manager the in room guide said 11 it said it was out of date. Both staff very rude instead of apologising for confusion and they forgot we were paying guests !! They’re parting shot “ we sometimes get SXXX guests” - SXXX guests that pay up front , didn’t cause any trouble just queried the discrepancy with in room guide and T&C ! Manager is in the wrong job

We stumbled across this place on our way to a restaurant and what a gem of a find it was. It wasn’t usually the type of place I’d go (it looks like a men’s pub which as a young woman I wouldn’t usually go in) but I can honestly say I have a fantastic time and it exceeded all expectations. They have live music playing - and the singer was fabulous. The service from the two men working was lovely. I actually didn’t want to leave to go to my restaurant booking. I will definitely be back and hope to see more people giving this place a go for a drink!

This could be a gem of a place but it appears to have been left to get run down. We stayed for two nights and although it was good value compared to other places I would say you get what you pay for which we were very disappointed by. The staff were friendly and check in was easy. However the walk to our room was the first sign it was going to be not what we thought. There were marks/stains all up the stairs from dropped drink and glasses left which were there all weekend so was not clean from the off. Our room was pleasant however, the bath had hairs in. We had the from room and the pub is next to an Irish bar which was extremely loud until 1am so we could sleep until then. The windows in the room were single glazed so you heard everything, making it a very disruptive sleep. We had breakfast included and were under the impression this would be a range of hot breakfast options however, we were told this was a continental breakfast and when directed to the breakfast all that was included was toast, croissants, yoghurt and cereal. The bread was also mouldy on both mornings. It's a shame because the pub itself is lovely and has so much potential. We went to various other pubs over the weekend which were all busy however, this pub was empty the whole time we were there. It need a good clean, better breakfast option and more attention to the quality. It was a cheap stay but as it is now I wouldn't recommend it.

We booked here as a few friends were staying and we were attending a wedding nearby. We arrived and were taken to the room which was genuinely disgusting. Poo in the toilet, wee stains all over the seat and the bath was covered in sut and hairs so clearly nothing had been cleaned. Not a service had been wiped and the room was covered in dust. There was a massive hole in the wall which was literally pouring water out onto the floor. We complained to the front of house (and trust me I am not one to complain) but he gave us a free drink and tried to ring the cleaner. Manager was nowhere to be seen so bless him he cleaned the toilet himself but it just wasn’t good enough considering what we had paid. So he took us up to another room to look at to see if we wanted to stay in that. I looked in that toilet and there was poo in that toilet as well! You literally couldn’t write it. So we found elsewhere to stay. Manager said he would sort a refund but it’s yet to be done. Honestly do not waste your money on this place, from the reviews it’s clear this has been happening for years. The other two couples who had booked also booked a different hotel. Would recommend Cottons hotel and spa down the road.

We feel that a lot of the reviews are a bit harsh. We had a great time here. Yes there are a few issues but nothing major. A lovely girl helped us find the car park. Thank you! They gave us a courtyard room that we requested which was good of them and they allowed us to check in early and to check out an hour later which was also nice of them. We loved sitting at the table and chairs outside our room in the sun. We liked our room, few cobwebs on the wall and not much wardrobe space/drawers and a few bits need touching up and sorting but we thought it was great value for what we paid. Breakfast was fine, bit short on staff and difficult to catch someone and food took a while. All staff were nice though. You couldn't get a better location. We would go again if we got a similar price.

Don't book the Cross Keys unless you relish the inconvenience and extra cost of having to re-book again just before you go.  After booking my hotel room two months ago and booking tickets for a local event, the Cross Keys cancelled my booking without warning two weeks before my event.  No correspondence or explanation from the venue. No apology. Just  an email from booking.com saying that the Cross Keys had initiated the cancellation due to the hotel overbooking its rooms.  Mistakes happen but a quick phone call or apologetic email was clearly too much effort for the Cross Keys staff who supposedly work in the hospitality sector.

Stayed one night and it was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. Room seemed clean but had a smell about it. Toilet handle hanging off, one of the sink taps loose, shower useless and flooded the floor, stained cushion on the bed. Was told that breakfast was continental and served from 7:30am but when we went downstairs all the doors were locked and no one in sight. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Room good although now seem to be cutting corners used booked with breakfast only to find pub locked up when we emailed to say we had booked breakfast and got none just completely ignored another couple we talked to said they had booked an evening meal and told there was no chef available

The pub is fine but the location is great, with parking in front and behind. Ideal for exploring Knutsford and surrounding areas. We were in room 1 which was lovely, clean and the shower was great. It was nice and quiet and an ideal place for a night away. The breakfast was ok and the staff helpful, he was a bit rushed off his feet by himself serving but no issues and we look forward to returning again soon.
