Courtyard by Marriott Frederick

Left early and forgot a couple items. Called an hour later, before 9am, to ask for housekeeping to save them. Called 4 times that day, 3 more the next. Best effort I could get was being told the next day the front desk went to look and couldn’t find anything. Each call was increasingly frustrating and incomprehensible. Won’t stay again.

Property was a little dirty and had construction going on. Staff was very friendly but the Marriott system was down the whole time we were there. So we had to provide credit card information on paper.

Awesome property. quiet and convenient. Friendly staff, easy parking.

Bug infested rooms with a management that seems just not to care are almost non-existent in good hotels of the major chains, but the Frederick Courtyard has reached a nearly-unique level of incompetent distinction. I can’t remember the last time I gave a hotel a 1 star rating, if ever. If this were a bottom-of-the-line bottom feeder in a chain that specializes in “cheap,” it might get 2 stars. Maybe. In the context of Courtyards and hotels in other major chain equivalents, though, this is the worst stay of the more than 100 nights on the road this year. It should be so much better – the structure is sound, elevators work, and if you like the Bistro offerings (we don’t), they’re exactly what you would expect. The HVAC was malfunctioning in the first room they gave us, so they happily moved us to another room. So far so good. What you don’t expect from a upper mid-range hotel, however, is a bug-infested room with no meaningful apology at check out. The spider in the bathroom was an unwelcome guest, but I have an idea how he got so fat. Far worse was the heavy investigation of tiny ants—the size of a pencil point, but really ugly when photographed and enlarged. I killed over 60 of them (they’re really fast, by the way), but didn’t really make a dent in their numbers. I moved the luggage to the center of the room and hoped not to bring any traveling guests home when we left the next day. The way the hotel dealt with us was simply dysfunctional. There was no management on duty in the afternoon of our departure. I took a Discovery-Channel-worthy video of the little wood eaters but the desk clerk really didn’t want to watch it and said there was nothing they could do anyway, but that I should call the next morning when there might be a manager (“perhaps after 9AM”). I did call and spoke to an on premise manager who though apologetic, was clearly was too low in the hierarchy to do anything but offer condolences. I was assured a higher level manager would contact me quite soon with some sort of more tangible apology -a refund of at least some of the points we used to pay for the room, specifically. It’s been just about a week and there’s no word from anyone. I later learned from an employee of the hotel that I was not the only one to complain about these ants – apparently over the previous several weeks, but that management hadn’t gotten around to contacting their exterminator. Maybe I haven’t been contacted because there are too many people in line in front of me that need to be assuaged. I’ve managed a hotel. Bugs happen. Lackadaisical responses to them don’t happen unless the management secretly wants to be working somewhere else.

It was very convenient for the event I was attending..

There wasn’t complimentary breakfast for the price paid..booking said there were pool and fitness but it was neither..

The property was in a convenient & good location with good access to many other service facilities to include restaurants. We were disappointed that there was no sofa in our double Queen bed room. All personnel were very accommodating & helpful.

It was very dusty, on top of lamps. The wooden frame of the couch is so close to the foot of the bed, practically unavoidable not to take a bad bruise to your legs, shins as you try to navigate around to the other side of the bed to get in it. I tryed to move the couch, it was much too heavy for me. Staff & management should definitely address this.
