The Imperial Mae Hong Son Resort

This hotel is located approximately 2klms from Mae Hong Son city centre but they do have a courtesy shuttle bus in and out of town. It's a classic Lanna style hotel in a beautiful natural environment. A reasonable buffet style breakfast is offered on a lovely terrace overlooking undisturbed greenery. The rooms are spacious but dated. Having to stand in a bath to take a shower is an unwanted legacy from the past. Towels were threadbare too. There is a general lack of property maintenance including badly stained corridor carpets that are in a disgusting condition. However, there are far worse places to stay in Mae Hong Son!

Our 2nd-floor veranda had a great view of the pool below and the surrounding forest -- very relaxing to sit and enjoy.

The room was spacious with a balcony. The bed was fairly comfortable.

The fridge in the room was loudly on the seals and would only operate if it was set to MAX, which then froze everything. The shower curtain in the bathroom also had mould stains. The towels looked horrible and needed replacing. None of the bins were lined with bags, which seems quite unsanitary, the furniture is old and some of the chairs felt like there were going to fall apart. There are no lights in the ceiling only lamps, so lighting is poor. The biggest issue was the floorboards, they were squealing and flexing so much they felt like they would break at any moment. Not sure this hotel should still be classed as 4 star. It's in need of serious renovation.

An old, rundown, ill-maintained hotel that has seen better days many years ago. Room was musty, damp smelling with old tatty furniture, hard bed and thread-bare towels that desperately need replacing. Hot water in shower/bath was uncontrollable, switching between scalding hot to freezing cold. There was a set of instructions how to balance the water temperature but this didn't work. We reported the situation to the hotel staff but they were uninterested to fix the issue and didn't give a damn about hotel guests wellbeing. Front desk reception staff very miserable, unfriendly and unhelpful, they probably don't really want to work in this horrible hotel. There was no assistance to help carry bags/luggage to room and also none available at checkout, we had to lug our own bags ourselves in several shifts. Breakfast was a joke, food all cold, sparse choice, flies everywhere. Staff around at breakfast uninterested to replenish depleted food & drinks. One day there were covers over all the self-service food tables and we were told because there were only a few guests in the hotel they didn't put on breakfast !!! (breakfast that I had paid up front for - no refund given). I definitely cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, avoid it and go stay elsewhere. The management/owner of this hotel should be ashamed.

The front desk staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, there was no welcome. There was no staff to carry our bags to the room, we had to shift our own bags. The room smelt very damp and musty, it was very unpleasant. The room and whole hotel is in a state of disrepair and desperately needs refurbishment, all furniture is dated and old. The shower/bath hot water system didn't work properly, it was very difficult to stabilise a comfortable water temperature (it was either scalding hot or very cold). There was a set of instructions how to control the water temperature however these instructions failed to control the water temperature properly. The breakfast was very poor, one day it was non-existent with no staff present. Breakfast was a waste of time and money.
