House of Gods Hotel

Really cool boutique hotel in a fantastic location. Unlike anywhere I’ve stayed before, it perfectly blends unique style with the city’s history and culture. Would love to stay again!

Stayed 2 nights for my wife’s 30th. We expected a special experience. What we got was confusion, cramped space, and endless service mistakes. Check-in: You enter through a random bar. No clear greeting, just awkward questions about cocktails and breakfast before we’d even caught our breath. Room: Unique décor, but tiny. With two larger suitcases, we could barely move. Cocktails: Fun idea — bartender at your door. Reality — same drink both nights, completely different “stories” and ingredient lists from each bartender. Felt gimmicky. Breakfast disaster: Day 1: Scheduled for 10:00, nothing. Chased them, got drinks only, chased again, finally got food almost an hour late. Croissants were worse than supermarket ones, coffee like bad gas station brew. Day 2: No mimosas. More chasing. Breakfast in bed should be indulgent, not irritating. Other annoyances: Room key stopped working. Said no to cleaning — came back to find it done anyway. Communication was all over the place. Bottom line: Quirky ideas, terrible execution. We left more annoyed than relaxed — and that says it all for a “special occasion” hotel.

Fantastic location for Fringe it’s literally in the heart of everything. On returning to our room after a very long day decided to chill out with a film, our TV would not work. Told receptionist and she came and had a go at sorting it. She said she would watts app us when it was sorted….. nothing!!! I am coeliac ( seriously allergic to wheat, barley and oats). I emailed and called the hotel before hand and was assured it’s all good we have that noted and can accommodate. Breakfast arrived in the morning, I was given bars with oats, wheat and barley in the ingredients. Terrible!!! I checked before eating but the rooms are so dimly lit and I trusted they had got it. I was also given non gf oat milk. Please please look into allergens more carefully before you kill somebody.. my allergy induces anaphylaxis… it’s serious. Deeply disappointed 😞

Just got back from an amazing stay at the House of God! This is definitely our new favourite spot whenever we’re in Edinburgh. The location is fantastic right on Cow Gate, next to the Underbelly, and just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Royal Mile, so everything's super convenient. The hotel itself has a really unique vibe with loads of fun quirks. We stayed in the Cabin room, which we knew wasn’t their biggest room but it was perfect for our trip and I would definitely stay in it again. The room is so thoughtfully designed, with storage everywhere. The coffee machine behind the makeup mirror, mini cocktails in the room plus a button to get prosecco, cookies, and milk sent straight to your door. We even ordered cookies at midnight! The bed and pillows were incredibly comfy, and we slept so well. Not sure if the rooms are soundproofed, but we didn’t hear a thing through the night which is amazing, especially during the Fringe! And the bar cocktails are soooo good! All the staff were super friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. A big shoutout to Ian, who made our stay feel really special, what a genuinely lovely, helpful guy. We’ll definitely be back!

Perfect location for Edinburgh Fringe. Super helpful and friendly staff. Cool and eclectic vibe to the hotel and lobby bar. Great airco. Be prepared that these are probably the smallest hotel rooms you will ever experience. We had a four poster bed room and it was really very sexy, intimate, cool...but it was so small that you could barely walk around the bed. The shower and bathroom were one in the same...it's tolerable for 1-2 nights but do not plan to stay for longer than that!

The location was excellent. In the centre of Edinburgh and easy to get to most attractions. The rooms are themed and very comfortable.

I booked this hotel for myself and my team as part of a work night out. The rooms were tiny, yet beautifully planned out although the bathrooms need some work. Everywhere is very dark as there are no windows. The service was extremely quick and efficient at all times. One of our group was gluten intolerant, and so I emailed beforehand to let them know this and received a quick reply to say that they could cater for this. Upon arrival we were all asked about our breakfast hamper preferences. Unfortunately, when my gluten intolerant friend received their breakfast hamper the cereal bars stated that they contained gluten, there were also 2 bagels in a brown bag that were not labelled at all. I had to message asking if their hamper catered for gluten intolerant people to which the reply said it did. This error could have made my friend seriously ill - clear labelling is a must! Our hamper was just as dreadful, 2 dull little croissants, 1 yogurt for 2 people to share and 2 jars filled with granola. It was so bad we couldn't eat most of it. The milk and cookies at night were wonderful, we got Maltesers with ours on the first night but no one else in our group did and then we did not get them on the second night. I am not sure why this was not consistent for everyone on both nights.

Excellent experience with the “treat me like i’m famous” package. Staff were great, specifically Adam and Rish who made us cocktails at the room and gave excellent service. Will come back again.

This place should be called OMG!! It isn’t just a stay, it is an experience. From as soon as you walk in you feel part of a secret society. The room service and contact through WhatsApp makes it the perfect night away! Full of debauchery and milk n cookies makes it the perfect escape. The hosts Murray, Miles and Africa really added to our stay! (Hope you guys find our Lane 7 pics from the Photo Booth!) 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ I honestly want a job there. I live for the vibe- rock n roll, fashion, naughtiness and broken rules!

1 night in room 204 worst sleep ever, If you like sleeping in a sauna this is the room for you, smell of wee in the room, no ventilation and air-conditioning that didn't work, bring a torch if you want to walk around the halls and to see where to touch your key card for the room door, if u love the smell of vinegar this is the place for you, pictures make it look amazing but them big pillows and cushions on the bed in real life are disgusting, and if you check the reviews a few weeks ago another person stayed in the same room so mantinance is lacking, fill your lungs with broken air-conditioning providing all your air. Oh and all your clothes will smell when you leave, I've told the truth so you can choose for yourself.
