"Great place, wonderful staff"

10.0

Delightfully quirky and fun, brilliant location. The staff were wonderful. rooms are clean and these are by far the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in in a hotel. Heavy use of incence might maybe bother someone but that is just knitpicking and I am sure the staff will remove them from the room if asked. We will be back for sure

"Great service and unique"

8.0

Really good service and very handy for central Edinburgh. We used the milk and cookie button both nights, and these came quickly and were nice and warm and a nice addition. Cocktails in the bar were 1st class and the menu is varied. The only issues we would point out is that the bed seemed like a small double, so quite small, and there’s no windows to open so can get quite warm. Rooms have minimal lighting and storage also. We also couldn’t get the ventilation in the bathroom to work so whole room steamed up, if that happens often they’ll end up with damp, but maybe just our room that day. All in all service and location were excellent, just a couple of minor issues but it was still a great couple of days. And Moulin Rouge was brilliant!

"Let down by service, faults and size."

4.0

For what I discovered my husband paid, it wasn't worth the amount. The hotel is lovely, glam, comfortable and very sound insulated but if you're claustrophobic or need a room with space and a window you can open... This is not the place. We were there for my 40th as he knew I always wanted to stay here. He had requested chocolates and the room to be decorated with balloons etc. When we arrived we were met with an offer of welcome drinks and because we're not Prosecco drinkers they were happy to accommodate our preferred drinks. We went through a questionnaire about breakfast and allergies etc and then shown to our room. It was a bit of a tight, dark, rabbit warren with curtains everywhere and up some stairs. The room itself was decorated lovely and furnishings well thought out. But it is SMALL. The bed was a small double but VERY comfortable but no windows we could open for fresh air (I have mild asthma) but Aircon was pretty good. The only natural light was from a glass brick window which, from what I could tell, was opposite a wall (it's Edinburgh so I didn't expect more than that). Everything in the fridge is charged so we didn't use anything in there so we brought our own. There was none of the ordered decorations or chocolates. Husband messaged on their WhatsApp chat about this and the chocolates appeared later but no decs when we returned after dinner. The milk and cookies button didn't work so again husband used WhatsApp and these arrived very quickly. We wanted to enjoy the room so settled in for a cosy evening but the TV remote UP button didn't work so navigating around that was a bit frustrating. Overall it was nice but won't be returning. For the £500 husband paid for one night it just wasn't worth it and I feel bad as he spent that for me.

"An experience, but a lot of negatives"

4.0

Negatives first: I paid extra for chocolates, balloons and flowers in the room, we got none of these, the button for cookies and milk didn't work, the TV remote 'up' button didn't work so navigating netflix etc took some thinking ahead, the toilet seat was loose so had to be careful, the shower is a wet room so prepare for everything to be soaked afterwards, bed is only a double and the room is very small. For the price we paid I would have expected a suite with a bath, not a pokey small room with essentially no window, just some glass blocks you can't even see out of. Positives, nice atmosphere, lighting is lovely, almost feels like you are on a boat, the bed despite being tiny is very comfortable. Overall it was pretty "meh", and given they charge £550 for a night at the weekend it's a fairly big let down. Could have saved £200 by going to a competitor down the road and had a much bigger bed and room 3x the size.

"Great service and location"

10.0

The room was tight on space but we knew to expect that from reviews. It was still ideal for an overnight stay. Great location and we had excellent service throughout. Milk and cookies were a nice addition and we enjoyed the hamper breakfast. We would definitely stay again.

"We loved it here"

10.0

Very impressed. Small independent feel to the hotel which we liked and everything as impeccable! Lovely bar and cocktails. The room is tiny but really comfy and cosy… a bit like a train sleeper carriage and everything is top quality. Service excellent, very friendly staff and very relaxed. Definitely worth taking a package because we loved the cookie and hamper breakfast. Well done guys, excellent stay!

"Worst ever hotel"

2.0

Worst room and hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere in the world. It is a ridiculous priced room and pictures online do not represent the room size. It’s honestly felt like a prison cell and we had upgraded our room to a classic double. Can’t imagine what the cabin room looks or feels like! I’ve have never been so disappointed in my life. I knew the decor would be darker but our room was awful. I have never felt so claustrophobic before but I definitely did as soon as I stepped in to that room. You could hardly get around the bed . The double bed was the smallest bed I’ve seen. It’s more like a 3/4 bed. If you are at all tall or sharing it’s an absolute nightmare. We were offered to have the manager come and speak to us but no one came to speak or offer any help. The room prices are not cheap and we paid an extra £100 on top of the gift voucher we had been given. Fortunately as we stay in the local area we were able to check out and travel home! In our opinion the prices charged for what you get is an absolute rip off. Please save your money and stay elsewhere if you are thinking of staying here. The Treat Me Like I’m Famous is just a marketing ploy to pull you in. Don’t be fooled.

"Delightfully decadent stay ⭐️"

10.0

A wonderful experience from start to finish. We were met at the door by the hotel manager, Miles, who was lovely and couldn’t do enough to get us settled. Our room was exactly as we expected - cosy, comfortable and visually decadent. The hotel operates a system whereby you can contact them via WhatsApp if there is anything that you need at any time of day. This is a fantastic feature - super-convenient and very efficient. It works particularly well if you’re away from the hotel and need to communicate with the Front of House. We were particularly impressed by the bar staff - they were gorgeous, attentive and made the best cocktails. Superb service! Our only issue was the lack of underfloor heating in our bathroom. The bathrooms are small wet rooms so they can get quite saturated. We informed the concierge upon arrival that our underfloor heating didn’t work but, unfortunately, it was unable to be fixed during our two-night stay. The members of staff who we encountered were absolute darlings and appropriately personable. We definitely felt like we were amongst friends rather than strangers. Overall, we had a stunning experience at House of Gods and will definitely return.
