Windhaven Bed & Breakfast

Amazing spot to stay. Wish it could have been for longer! Michelle and Steve are great hosts. Their house and property is beautiful. Great rooms and facilities. Delicious meals. Perfect spot on the Alps 2 Ocean trail.

The host were the kindest people in NZ that we have met! The decoration is very well thought, beautiful garden and OMG the home made diner with fresh veggies from their garden was excellent!

We were initially very excited to stay at Windhaven B&B, the booking looks good on paper but what we found in real life was far different.

Recommend that you AVOID this booking. We were booked in the cottage had a terrible experience with Windhaven Bed & Breakfast, which ruined a significant portion of our trip. Upon arrival we found a bedbug in the bed under the sheets in the mattress pad, which is obviously unacceptable and had to leave. We notified the hosts and they were quite unkind and lacked compassion, which made our experience even worse. Of note, additionally there were many other bug pests in the unit and cob webs. The situation left us sleeping in our car in the rain, exhausted and had to drive a long distance trying to find another booking. We also lost $309 that the host refused to refund despite us leaving right after finding the bed bug on the first night. The host’s attitude towards the situation is what compelled us to write this review to warn other travelers. Before this booking we had been having an amazing time in New Zealand with all our prior bookings and other hosts who were amazing. To detail our experience, we were initially very excited to stay at Windhaven B&B, the booking looks good on paper but what we found in real life was far different. We politely asked for a self check in after the 8:30pm check in time and the host agreed. We arrived at 11pm. It was raining, we quickly opened and closed the door to the unit. We immediately noticed numerous bug pests in the unit and multiple cob webs throughout (see pictures), which appeared old and that the host made no effort to clear them. It was not ideal but we are easy going people so we were making the best of the situation, so we spent 45 mins smashing the various bugs in the unit, including spiders and some sort of flying bugs that looked similar to mosquitoes. Since there were numerous bug pests we felt compelled to check the bed before going to sleep. We pulled back each sheet, then in the mattress pad spotted a bed bug (see picture) and killed it.

Great hosts and gardens

We had a wonderful time at our stay. Steve and Michelle made us feel at home and were great hosts. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious.

Beautiful house and the owners of the property were very nice. It’s a beautiful property and would certainly recommend this place to others.

Super friendly and nicely staff and very helpful for all of us,specially when we come late,owner Steve waiting for us and explained for guests house facilities and last look us have a kid and provide us baby cot.super recommend for this accommodation.you can feel it,we same like sleep at own home.

Michelle and Steve are exceptional hosts. We had a wonderful stay here. A beautiful home lovingly shared with guests.

Nothing. The bathroom is separate, but this was no bother
