Villa de la Mer Hout Bay Beachfront

We were not happy at all. A complete misrepresentation of what was advertised on Booking.com. We refused to stay in the accommodation, Claudine the owner refused to refund us, we were a late booking in at 5. Not in the least worth the R12 000 for 2 nights. Booking.com was not helpful in getting us refunded either and they are still in possession of our payment for Villa de la Mer. Booking.com should take responsibility as they are posting the accommodation on their webpage.

The accommodation was not as advertised. The pictures are also deceiving. They claim it as on the beach which it was not. We were not informed that there was a live in tenant and that we would be sharing a kitchen and home with a stranger. When we walked in we were overwhelmed by the smell of tobacco and curry. The fridge and cupboards were full of his personal groceries. One stage he was frantically looking for his tobacco on the kitchen counter, which was removed by the care taker and cleaners. Accommodation is a non smoking zone. Our beds had been made hurriedly nothing had been ironed, we were missing continental pillow cases others had been used and rest un ironed. Our parents bed when my husband laid on it the mattress concaved, when i sat on the edge of my bed all i could feel was bed springs. There was no hand towels, shampoo, shower gel, cream or shower caps. we were all missing hand towels. There was no slippers or gowns as stated on their site. Instead a bar of Savlon soap and a hand pump Woolworths hand soap, old used soap remained in holders. our parents bathroom smelled of urine. There was no coffee,tea,or milk left for us. Villa de le Mer advertise vegetarian breakfast and room service, I doubt that was ever going to happen. The lounge suite was two large ottoman’s don’t know how we were going to relax and watch tv with the family. The cleaning was also very much in question and felt as though it had been given a quick once over. All the bathrooms were missing items off the walls either hand rails or holders. Mildew in the showers and the shower heads were dirty. The upstairs table and patio had bird excrement all over. The outside pool cover was filthy and I doubt anyone had bothered to clean it in weeks. There was only one garage for 2 vehicles, no secure parking for the other vehicle. we also had to drive up and down looking for the property as there is no name and the number is not as stated on site.
