The grounds are beautiful. The indoor pool is amazing.

We booked the king river view room. You could see the river if you were standing up. The windows are small and the view is limited. We ordered nachos at the bar and they were burned chips with lukewarm globs of cheese on top. The room had a table for in room dining but only one chair would fit. No one explained where the restaurants were or which ones were open.

The Grounds and the friendly staff

We were a family if 3 couples. Stay was fully pre-paid for 3 rooms on booking.com. But at check out they had us pay extra. Only after paying did we realise we were overcharged. Got back to the front desk, who tried to dismiss us. Then after arguing back we were able to show them without doubt that we were overcharged (for several hundred dollars). They then apologized and blamed it on some "new" system booking.com was implementing which made them overcharge the stay. They eventually had to refund the amounts overcharged. Due to this fiasco our check out process took some 50 minutes. Left a bad taste in our mouthes. And they never offered anything in return other then an apology. It was our 4th year in a row that our family comes here for a staycation, we asked for a discount to be applied for a future stay in return for the mishap, but we were dismissed in a subtle way by giving us the email address of the manager and asking us to write to him. We said it should be the other way round, your manager should be reaching out to us to apologize and offer something to returning clients. But alas!!

The hotel is a historic hotel with beautiful grounds grand architecture. The service was great and the staff were attentive. The food we ate was delicious, especially the french onion soup. That being said the hotel is 95 years old and seems like upkeep has not been kept up. Our air conditioning only worked sporadically and overall the room and bathroom needed updating.

Beautiful hotel with a lot of activities and amenities. Cool that you could eat your own food in the lobby.

Very small, dated rooms. Expensive for the room, but you pay for the hotel amenities.
