"Stylish staycation with amazing staff and amenities"

10.0

A relaxing and stylish hotel to stay at for a holiday staycation. Clean, hip, attentive staff, and great attention to detail. The hotel is really involved with local artists and musicians, so if those two things are of interest you’d love this place.

Nice and comfortable design with thoughtful small touches, good shower, nice bath products. Located near several metro stops. Red light sauna at the spa was nice.

"Lovely Stay"

8.0

Stayed here for just one night but it was great. Clean and well appointed room. Even had a record player and records if we wanted to play them. And also many books. Shower had good water pressure and the bathroom had plenty of room for my things. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of restaurants and bars on site. Easy walking distance to many things.

"Close, but not quite what I hoped it would be"

8.0

I had high hopes for the Eaton and was excited to arrive. I was going to be staying for three nights so I splurged for a junior suite. The check-in process was not at all smooth. Granted, I got there early at about noon and I didn't expect to be able to check in immediately (although that would have been nice). I did, however, expect to gain access to a room well before the 3:00 p.m. regular check-in time. Instead, I got vague assurances that they will call me when the room is ready (they didn't) and ultimately the explanation that "the linen truck was in an accident." I was checked in at 3:15 pm after standing in front of the reception desk for 15 minutes and not leaving. So not an auspicious start. Next, my 4th floor room overlooked air conditioning units and adjacent buildings with little natural light, which is a big drawback for me. However, I was not about to ask for a different one given how long it took to get this one. As compensation for the late check-in, they offered a breakfast voucher for the Baker's Daughter in their building, and when I asked if I could get the credit for Allegory the cocktail bar instead, they granted it. However, they did not mention that it was closed the first two nights, and then was closed for a private party my final night! So I didn't get to try it after all and Allegory was part of the appeal for me to stay here. In terms of the room itself, it was very nicely appointed. Another draw of this hotel was the record players in the room. Mine did not work. It could not play records because the needle was messed up. And the measly 4 records in the room were not of interest anyway. There was a coffee service (both pods and steeped), as well as a kettle, but no tea bags provided. I used the single decaf coffee on my first night and it was never replenished. There are expensive-looking Japanese aluminum water bottles in the room that I did not drink until the second day because they did not make it clear that that's what the exorbitant city/resort fee covers. There are no signs in the room indicating that they are free either. Oddly, when the maid serviced the room, she turned up the heat to 75 (!) so when I came back from my business meetings it was absolutely roasting. I prefer to sleep in a chillier room (e.g. 66-67 degrees) and the room wouldn't cool down that much. I did really like the lighting in the room. It's both stylish and functional, with multiple lamps and dimmers that I appreciate for mood lighting and night lights. The furniture, carpet, and tile all feel designer and unique. However, I was surprised that there were no robes in the bathroom. Most boutique or higher end hotels provide them. While the room had a steamer, I had to request an iron and ironing board. This is probably just my preference but I absolutely hate the trend of hotels providing steamers and not irons. Handheld steamers do not crisply press clothes or fully remove wrinkles in my experience. The Eaton is well -located; I come to DC a lot and I was able to walk everywhere I needed to go on this trip, although several Metro stations are nearby too. Finally, I want to mention that when I checked out, they acknowledged my feedback and refunded the daily city/resort fees! So that was impressive and appreciated. Overall, I would return to the Eaton, but ask for a room with more of an exterior view (and make sure Allegory would be open during my stay)!
