Mercure Hotel Köln Belfortstraße

I stayed at this hotel for two nights recently on the fifth floor. It's an excellent choice, pretty much in the city center. Tons of Christmas markets nearby that are within walking distance. Overall rating is four stars at best. The size of the room (single queen size bed) was impressive compared to other hotels in Europe. Even by American standards, the room was pretty big. Cons: 1. One of the light switches near the bed fell off 2. The wifi is extremely slow. Some areas of the room were dead zones. Can't imagine paying for their advertised "faster" wifi. 3. The bed was advertised as a queen sized bed but in fact were two twin sized beds put together. Even the sheets were for twin sized beds. Luckily my girlfriend and I don't really take much bed space together ;) Pros: 1. Location is excellent. It's close to everything. 2. Very spacious hotel room. 3. Although it's in the city center, the area is rather quiet. 4. The view from the room was amazing. Seriously...the wall facing the street was nearly all window. 5. The breakfast may seem a little expensive but it's well worth it. 6. Last but not least, the staff. Very friendly, courteous, helpful, and beautiful. Service with a smile.

Great hotel about 15 mins walk from the Dom. Staff very helpfull & friendly.

Staff were helpful overall with the exception of car parking. We obviously arrived at a very busy time with groups leaving and a wedding party. We were given very little help with or where to park or if we could park somewhere else and come in later: which we did. Also unclear whether or not there was a cost for it. A general criticism which never ceases to amaze me is why one easy chair? (booked a room for 2) and one chair for sitting at table. Everybody who will bring a laptop will be able to use it on their lap!! but sittting watching the tv on a "formal" chair is not comfortable. Everywhere does this and everywhere gets itt wrong!!!

Checked in & was upgraded immediately. Car parking was inexpensive, lounge, bar area. Pool & sauna was great. I would definitely recommend & stay again

Good hotel if you're lucky to be put in the main building. There is an annex across the road but the rooms there are tiny and only small beds. Hotel offers a gym and swimming pool. Breakfast price is outrageous at 16€. There should be a simpler breakfast priced lower.

The hotels comprises 2 buildings, with standard rooms located on an annexing building. Had to pay extra on check in to be kept in main building (this should be correctly advertised). Pool was nice, clean and good depth. Gym is a "Mini gym" I would call it a micro gym. Sauna facility decent with showering and lounge chairs, down side is you have to walk through the gym to get from/to sauna and pool, dripping water on gym floor, this needs looking at from the health and safety risk assessment point of view, wet "Gym" floor can be a serious issue.

Hotel had minimum staff after 8pm. The Air Conditioning was broken in our room. We let reception know the first day and nothing was done we had to let them know again the next day and still no help. Not very helpful. The room was not cleaned after our first night. The tea cups were not changed we were left with dirty dishes. Staff not very friendly.

Of the 6 places we stayed during our holiday, this is undoubtedly the most perfect. The welcome staff very friendly, helpful and most courteous. The room clean and spacious and relaxing with comfortable chairs and beds. I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

i stayed two nights and overall liked it the location was fine and the room was good. What i didn't like is that when booking a room on Expedia wasn't enough to be in main building but on another building near by and I was forced to pay extra in order to be in main building.. The only reason i knew about the possibility is because i read the bad reviews online... I think there should be clarification of what room in what building you are booking... The other thing is that the AC in the room isn't strong enough and have to be replaced. Even maintenance told me its just old and best that it can do. Unfortunately its not enough

Stayed in the main building and I understand that this is the one with refurbished rooms. English-speaking staff were very pleasant and helpful, booking me taxis to Gamescom and local restaurants multiple times. My 4th floor room was clean and had modern fittings and gadgets. Coffee-pod type machine, fridge with mini bar, a few snacks, flatscreen TV, nice bath/shower-room. It was a hot few days and the air-con worked flawlessly, keeping me cool and comfortable in my sleep. Breakfast was very very good - a wide selection of continental foods, cooked breakfast (sausage, eggs, mushrooms, bacon, etc). They even had a waffle iron. Bar was good but you cannot drink outside too late due to the hotel being in a residential area, you can however move indoors and continue to drink. I did not use the pool/sauna facilities so cannot comment on these. Overall, I was very impressed with this hotel and I would stay again.
