El Cordova Hotel on Coronado Island

The hotel is very old, which I knew going in… just thought it would be more user friendly! Hard to find working outlets . The bathroom was super tiny, and the water pressure in shower was non-existent . The room was clean, quiet and bed was very comfortable . It’s a great location though. So if you just lower your expectations it’s an okay place to stay.

Great location! Close to beach, restaurants and shopping. Very unique setting. Helpful staff. Our 2 bedroom suite was very spacious.

I went to the hotel for a weekend getaway for my wife's birthday and i booked through booking.com (which does not have a customer service number in the usa, nor do they make it easy to complain post stay). The hotel was listed as an 8.2 and it was more like a 4.2. The rooms are old and dated. We were given a room with a view of an alley way and air conditioners on the building next door. We were kept up ALL night because there were RATS in the walls. You could hear them above your head (room 102) eating the insulation, running around and squeaking loudly all night. It sounded like they were in the room with you. There was hardly anyone at the front desk to complain. When we went to check out, we were met with surprise (if you delve deep in reviews you can see they have repeated pest issues) and offered nothing in way of refund. DO NOT stay here.

The El Cordova Hotel is in a nice location in Coronado, conveniently located within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. The staff were friendly. The room that we stayed in was very spacious and met our needs. However, the room did have a very noticeable musty smell. Parking was also a bit tricky, but I think that’s a common problem in Coronado.

We stayed at El Cordova just one night. Super location in the heart of the Coronado Villagr. The desk agent (sorry I didn’t get his name) was friendly and welcoming. He was on the Sunday evening shift. The room was well decorated and quiet. Good night’s sleep! I recommend the El Cordova highly.

An excellent experience! We stayed in the room we requested and purchased a parking pass upon our arrival. We’ve stayed here 8 times and have a reservation for March. Best place to stay in Coronado. Stay in the back of the property if you can to avoid the noise of the restaurant Miguel’s and definitely get a parking pass. The hotel’s staff is very welcoming as a rule. Comfy beds and nice rooms with lots of dining, shopping, great walking and the beach is 5 minutes away.

This place was absolutely horrible. We were killing cockroaches all night. One of the tubs and sinks in the same bathroom filled up with water and didn’t run. Called the front desk, but no one answered. Stay away from this location. It’s bad. And dirty to boot.

The hotel is in a great location - near lots of restaurants and shops. Also it’s a short walk to the beach! The downside is that it is quite noisy. Our room was located over the restaurant and we were regularly woken up very early in the morning/middle of the night by happenings in the restaurant or on the street outside. Aside from the noise our room was nice. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Plenty of space for our family of 4 though we could have used more hooks in the bathroom for tow ls etc. The pool is nice but not super warm. The hot tub is great. The patio is awesome with a nice fireplace - great place to sit and relax in the evenings. Overall the hotel is nice - on the expensive side but no serious complaints.

Noise! Why would you have a delivery truck come at 6:45 am on a Saturday outside the back alley where 90% of the rooms are? Banging their gate/crashing things onto the dollies. On top of that the next morning….Sunday… at 7:45 am outside the front of our room they were using a machine to clean the tile floors. Then 15 minutes later the beep beep beep of the delivery truck coming again out the back… Worst ever experience! The floors were dirty, the mirror could have been replaced 20 years ago so you can at least see into it, and the poor guy at front was alone dealing with other people’s issues. Only good few things are the clean pool, a gas fire area, and courtyard to hang out in. Oh and free hot coffee in am in the lobby. Not a very relaxing lazy morning hotel if that’s what you are looking for.

I write this review in the hope that it will help future guests of El Cordova. This was our fourth stay at EC and its deterioration has become obvious. We stayed for a week and had a two bedroom suite. The bathroom to the first bedroom was in terrible shape. The toilet was not secure to the floor and it took three days before a plumber came to repair it. Even then it did not flush very well. The bath tub was basically unusable. The best way of describing it is like standing on a water bed. Water had accumulated underneath the surface of the tub and it would swish around if you tried standing on it. Too dangerous to try to shower. As a result the bathroom in the second bedroom was the only functional bathroom. Also, the doorknob to first bedroom was lose and even though we complained about the doorknob it was never fixed. My daughter and son-in-law and my two grandchildren were in the first bedroom and they became so frustrated with the condition of that bathroom that they left and checked into the Del Coronado for the last three days of our stay. There was also a knob missing from the stove and the burners would not light without the use of a lighter. I complained to the manager, Derick, but my complaints only received lip service. The property as a whole is in serious need of improvements and I hope that someone with authority takes note of this review and commits to having those improvements made.
