Residence Inn Kansas City Independence

Not at all what we have come to expect from a Marriott property. Kitchen not clean. Supplies hadn’t been refreshed and had been used by previous guests. Room AC did not work to cool the full room so small window AC unit installed with mold collected around it. Cabinets in bathroom were broken and had randów screws all over the place. Tub and tile needed re-caulking. Multiple random rooms throughout the hallways under construction and taped up with plastic. (Why not shut down a block of rooms in one hallway at a time!) Had to walk through plastic barriers in hallways to get to lobby. Interior hallways smelled like marijuana.

Disappointed. Loud air conditioner woke us up all night. Hotel under construction and had plastic covering the hallways. We were not informed of the construction prior to our stay. Several had to get different rooms as suites weren’t available upon arrival. Injury happened to a family member because of a metal bolt sticking out of the bed. Bathroom had dirt/mold and walls missing hooks. Obvious water damage on the ceiling. One room had water leaking from the ceiling. The pool had to be closed due to a maintenance issue. We were here for a mimi family reunion and won’t stay here again. I expected more from a Marriot property.

Though this property is undergoing massive renovation, our room was perfectly fine, comfortable and had the fastest internet of any hotel I have stayed in. The indoor public areas were nice, the breakfast hot and well prepared. I assume the outdoor parking and walks will be repaired and resurfaced when the indoor work is completed. The staff seemed meticulous in wanting things to be right. And best of all, there is a terrific new sports bar right next door.

Breakfast was good, the common area was roomy and comfortable

No one was at the desk when we arrived. After waiting approximately 20 minutes we used our phone to call The guy showed up with headphones on. Offered no apology for the wait. But when checking out, we were charged $10 per day for outdoor parking! Are you kidding me! We did visit with the Assistant Manager who was very kind and reduced our bill. We did appreciate that, however how many people get charged for parking? If that is a corporate decision. We will not be staying at another Residence Inn.

We were passing through on the way to South Dakota. The hotel was being remodeled and our room was located in an area that had plastic sheets over hallway entrances and it smelled like paint in our hallway. Other areas were OK. Rooms seemed a little smaller than usual and breakfast was underwhelming compared to other Marriott properties. There was a $10 charge for parking that we were not aware of, but I guess that's because the Royals were playing a few miles away. I could see where this hotel would be a nice place to stay most other times. The rooms were clean and the area was nice. OK for a night stay.

The hotel was perfect for us. Out of way within the city. Right next to the Independence Center. The hotel was clean, breakfast was good, parking is very easy. They have loyal customers who stay here when in town. I rate hotels on whether I feel they are clean, safe, and responsive to what you need. This hotel fit those categories.

Good location for our purposes. Comfortable and liked well stocked kitchen.
