"Comfort in the Caribbean"

8.0

We were three couples on a fabulous Caribbean getaway, and where better to stay than the newly refurbished Colony Club. The pools and Beach area were all sparkly blue and spotlessly clean. Food was plentiful and well presented. We enjoyed breakfast daily, and were really impressed with the great selection especially usually the sumptuous fresh fruits available. Our room was spotless, extremely comfortable and located near the Tennis court and Padel court. The only area that did not meet the high standards was the gym which is very small and has limited equipment. This could be bought in line with the rest of the hotel. Overall, it’s a big thumbs up from me!

"Should be called the Colony Club FAMILY Resort"

6.0

We have just returned home from a five-day stay at the Colony Club after an eighteen-day cruise on Silversea. This storied resort has just reopened after a renovation, and the grounds are lovely, as was our large oceanfront room with a spacious verandah. The bottom line for us was that we could not wait to check out. We have stayed in a number of resorts on this platinum coast of Barbados, so we have a sense of what is available, and this one should not be a "luxury collection" Marriott property. Here is the good, the bad and the ugly about this resort. First, here is what was great bout this hotel. For a Bajan hotel, the staff were quite good—"Mariottized," as it were. The reception staff were outstanding: friendly, gracious, and accommodating. Most of the dining room staff were very nice as well. The beach attendants were also nice when they were around. The gardens are lovely, and the beach is one of the nicest along that coast. Beach chairs were plentiful as long as you got with the program and grabbed one before someone else threw a towel on one and promptly left for a few hours to do god knows what. The food was hit or miss. It started off god-awful, apart from the great club sandwiches at lunch. Valentine's Day dinner was quite nice, but far from five-star. Breakfast was horrendous. The food was mediocre, and the buffet space was so small that it was almost impossible to get near the food. The dining room and the buffet area were crawling with children running amok, screaming and crying. It was beyond awful. If you are travelling with children and you don't care who you disrespect or annoy, this might be the place for you. The ugly part of this hotel is that its descriptions do not indicate that it is for families. And if you are a parent who doesn't give a crap about how loud or obnoxious your children are to others, or if they run through dining rooms while people are eating, then go for it. If you are travelling as a couple and don't much care for other people's children, then run for the hills. Stay at The House. The food is better there anyway.

"Caribbean Paradise"

10.0

A beautiful oasis of a hotel. We had a suite that was modern, immaculate and spacious. All staff were very helpful and the lagoon style pools are beautiful. However it is the beach that crowns it all - simply a Caribbean picture postcard paradise - stunning! Highly recommend

"Outstanding beachfront site and service."

10.0

From the arrival at the security gate, the parking staff, the reception team, bar staff, waiters, cleaners and beach staff, service was outstanding. Rooms are spacious with superbly comfortable beds and huge showers. Food and drink are all great. Plenty of loungers around the pools and on the beach. Special mention to Wayne on the beach who was incredible.

"Great location, all round really good"

10.0

We are in the hotel now and I cannot believe some of the reviews I’ve been reading about this gorgeous hotel, it’s like paradise, right on the beach lovely room, amazing gardens and warm and friendly staff.. the food is lovely we have only had breakfast and lunch here and tend to go out in the evenings, great location for fabulous restaurants nearby. The only slight negative is it is pricey to stay here however I think this must be because of the location in the smartest area of Barbados. Would love to return next year and stay longer!

"A Gem on a sun kissed Island"

10.0

Fantastic hotel which has been very tastefully maintained to keep its original character whilst giving a feel of style, grace and openness. Live music every evening and what a talent the various artists are. But what makes this place with its own sandy beach and pools are the staff. They are kind helpful and totally engaging and the standard is in my opinion 10 out of 10. I would like to name Roseanne , Nicole and Suzette in particular what lovely ladies they are and made our Caribbean holiday in Barbados so thank you ladies and a big thank you to all the other staff too many to name. The rooms are of a very high standard and quality. Just excellent all round.

"A curate’s egg without doubt!"

6.0

There is little doubt that The Colony Club is a beautiful place set on a wonderful beach and the rooms are lovely but for us this great location never gets close to five stars because of some very strange failings. Our first sense was that the restaurant staff appeared to resent their guests! To be fair, I will give you an example to illustrate the point- I ordered a glass of Malbec from four choices of red wines by the glass. 10 minutes later the waitress told me that Malbec was unavailable- so I asked for Merlot, 10 minutes later she returned saying that Merlot wasn’t available, so I asked for Cabernet Sauvignon which arrived straight out of the fridge. Now for the strange bit - my bill arrived with two glasses of wine - one Pinot Grigio and one Pinot Noir, neither of which I ordered! When the correct bill arrived it came with the words, “is that right now”? I am sure you have all experienced that tone! No apology or an admission of an error- certainly no five stars when two of four choices are missing- am I being unreasonable? The serving area for breakfast is so small everyone bumps into each other and are incredibly apologetic, as am I but it is way too small. In a review I read this week, the writer said that the hotel had nil atmosphere and he was sadly correct. The main reason is that the only restaurant on site is not five star and most guests eat out so how can the hotel generate atmosphere? Not possible. We were told by friends that next door was a better option for lunch as it had a far better more varied menu. We certainly agree, which is a terrible inditement which management has to address right now. The beach staff were brilliant and showed the staff in general how to treat guests properly. One really bizarre item that amused me no end was having the safe in a draw, which when opened led to a very “wonky” drawer. Certainly not what one would expect from a five star resort. I hate to be negative but if the Colony Club wants to be known and appreciated as a 5 star resort, it will have to up its game considerably.

"A perfect stay on the beautiful west coast"

10.0

My partner and I stayed here on a beautiful winter break; the Colony Club certainly didn't disappoint. The location is great - the hotel is set directly on a beautiful beach and also walking distance from colourful Holetown with nice shops and restaurants if you fancy a trip out. The hotel itself is beautiful, full of character and has everything you would want including varied dining, a rum vault, gift shop and free watersports. The sea view room was clean and very comfortable with beautiful views. We particularly enjoyed watching the sun set from the shore. Hope to be back soon!

The hotel overall exceeded our expectations, however the check in process was a little painful as many of the rooms were not ready on time so there was quite a bit of waiting around. The staff did ensure we had everything we needed throughout and, after this, our stay was perfect in every way!
