"An honest review of Colony Club"

4.0

The setting is beautiful but the hotel has no atmosphere .The room was large and beds are comfortable but dark day and night, it did not get much natural light during the day and there is not enough lamps at night. The corridor to get to the room was horrible and smelt dank. I didn't like the fact that staff thought it was ok to come to your room through the balcony so felt there was no privacy if you were on the ground floor this happened 3 times so always had to keep curtains drawn . The breakfast was very limited the eggs were cooked fresh but things like pancakes were like dry cardboard from how long they sat there, things did not get refilled often . Staff in general looked miserable and everything was an effort for them. Cocktails were very expensive as they were premade we sat and watched them all being delivered one day in big plastic bottles and they tasted like it. The food was very average and most people we spoke to go out to eat after the first night as nobody wants to eat there unless you have prepaid for it in the reservation but taxi are very expensive so please take that into account. It advertises its self as a luxury resort but in my opinion its not ,and you can stop it the cheaper all inclusive resorts in the chain then get a free water taxi to Colony Club to use the facilities and not pay the extra to stop there . We have stopped in luxury hotels all over the world and this wasn't one of them and I would never stop here again. The rooms were clean but on one day of our stay they cleaned the room and did turn down service at the same time as so late in the day . There was cleaning carts always blocking the tight corridors when you left your room. It does have a nice pool area but sunbeds were full of people from the other hotels we did spend time talking to them to check this. In general rooms are nice enough but dark pool area is nice but full of people that are staying in cheaper resorts, some staff are unhelpful. Food was mediocre as were the cocktails ,

"Not good"

4.0

We have traveled to many luxury resorts in the Caribbean, and this resort fell very short of expectations given the price and label. The service was poor. We were woken up nearly every morning at 9am (there is a time change so it was 8am back home and we have kids and were trying to sleep in on vacation) by housekeeping trying to clean our room. Each day I asked if they could come back later and each day they said yes and never cleaned our room. Pool/beach food and drink service was non-existent most of the time. The “spa” is a TINY building far away from the rest of the resort. Our massages were great. When I was getting mine, however, there were people cleaning and banging on the floors/walls the entire time. It was anything but a relaxing spa experience. There is no sauna. No hot tub (anywhere on the resort). Overall I would not recommend anyone visit this resort considering the high cost and bad service. Barbados was GREAT otherwise!!

"Another lovely holiday at the Colony Club"

10.0

We have just returned from a week’s holiday at the Colony Club. We stayed at the Colony before and we found the refurbishment to have been completed with tremendous care and thoughtfulness. The gardens and pools of the hotel are absolutely beautiful and amazing. Beach and the lovely Caribbean sea were just lovely with no issues with loungers. The room was lovely, quiet, spacious , immaculately clean and bathroom upgrade was very tastefully done. Breakfast was all very fresh, varied and great quality. Dinner was excellent, fresh, varied and good vegetarian options. Staff were very accommodating for specific dietary requirements. As for staff at the Colony Club, they are a credit to the hotel. Staff are friendly, professional and work extremely hard. This goes for gardeners, pool staff, reception staff, cleaners , waiters and waitresses. We hope to return to this charming and wonderful hotel before too long.

"Beautiful location, excellent refurbishment!"

10.0

Marriott have done a good job in closing and fully refurbishing every part of this resort; it is a great upgrade from the Elegant Hotels' predecessor. The bedroom product really is 5-star, and beautiful. The whole hotel is very well designed with a nice modern yet historic touch to its colonial/plantation heritage. The reviews on TA say it all really, and the really negatives ones say more about the writer than the hotel... I liked and appreciated all parts of the resort. Yes, the beach is a little busy with sunbeds, but that means you can ALWAYS get one. Service sometimes can be hit and miss, but when you 'connect' with the team members they then look after you. I would definitely consider returning. But - I do have x3 issues with the hotel... 1) the wine list is far too over priced; even highend Lone Star or Fish Pot restaurants (with the same wines) are cheaper! 2) breakfast is excellent but the rest of the food (particularly dinner) is below par and does not impress - as well as being far too expensive for what it is. 3) lastly, I cannot understand how, with so much thought put into the design and quality of the bedroom product, that there is not a hook to hang your dressing gown/robe, or towel rails to hang up your towels once used and damp! Small point, and easily fixed, but it is irritating and messes up the look of the bathrooms by having to fling damp towels over the glass shower enclosures. So, rant on that over, I would definitely return for the many positives, and definitely if they had an 'all-inclusive' meal plan!

"Fabulous weeks stay - not long enough."

10.0

Just returned from a week at The Colony Club. Had a beautiful pool and garden room view with terrace and outside patio set amongst lush gardens- well maintained and natural without being manicured. Every member of staff was genuinely friendly and always had time to chat. Breakfasts were great made better by the warm welcome. The reception/ concierge were all super helpful with advice/ recommendations - anything at all. We found there was always plenty of space on the beach and you can take a walk down the beach to Folkestone Marine park to Snoweys or Sea and Sand for daytime drinks /food . Walk further along beach to Holetown etc. Buses frequent main highway so easy to get up to Speightstown or south. Thanks to all in Colony Club Team for your lovely, warm Barbados hospitality.

"Lovely hotel and excellent staff."

8.0

Despite other reviews.. we found virtually all of the staff helpful., courteous, and smiling. Chatting to them and having a bit of fun rather than treating them like servants went a long way! I emailed ahead to request a quiet sunny room and was rewarded with an upgrade.. a lovely room with a great view. We were on half board and the evening meals were superb. Breakfast buffet a bit crowded.. some food rather cold.. tea and coffee awful! Sun beds beach beds plentiful. The gardens are just Lovely, and little waterways and waterfalls soo pretty. The drinks and any extras were Expensive! Tip.. Walk down the beach to Snoweys, where the drinks are half the price, and you can snorkel from the beach in the marine reserve.

"Fantastic Hotel"

10.0

Fantastic hotel. The total refurbishment of the hotel has brought the Colony Club right up there as one of the best in the West Coast. Warm welcome, efficient and friendly front of house staff who could not do enough for you., Enjoyed a Junior Suite with great amenities, and a wonderful comfortable bed. Great space with plenty sun loungers round the pool or on the beach. Peaceful, elegant, great bars, and spectacular service from a very happy staff who clearly love working there and looking after guests. Highly recommend

"Beautifully refurbished hotel with charm but some elements could be improved in terms of service"

8.0

We recently stayed at the newly refurbished Colony Club in Barbados and overall had a very pleasant experience, though with some notable drawbacks. The refurbishment has been done extremely well. The rooms were spotlessly clean, fresh, and comfortable, with thoughtful touches such as turn-down service, a well-stocked mini bar, and efficient room service. The hotel has retained its lovely colonial charm while sympathetically increasing the number of rooms—nothing feels overcrowded or overdeveloped. There is plenty of space throughout the property. The pool and recreational areas never felt busy, and there was always ample room on the beach, which made for a relaxed and calm atmosphere. A nice added bonus is the free boat rides to other hotels in the chain, which we really enjoyed. Several staff members truly stood out and deserve special mention:  Destiny on Reception was excellent—warm, professional, and welcoming. Nigel at meet and greet set a great first impression.  Maradona, always smiling, was a joy—eager, friendly, and brilliant when bringing drinks, welcome snacks, or ice cream. Donna at breakfast was lovely and attentive. Thomas on the beach was also great and Harrieta friendly and meticulous in cleaning our room. Unfortunately, the negatives mainly relate to food and service. Breakfast was poor compared to other places we have stayed on the island. While self-service is fine in principle, the options were quite limited, and the ‘hot’ items were often cold and appeared to have been sitting out for some time. Table service throughout the day was also very slow, both at breakfast and around the pool or beach. On several occasions we had to actively chase staff just to order drinks or even ask for water, which became frustrating. It was also noticeable that many staff appeared unhappy in their workplace—few smiles, and sometimes not even a simple good morning or good evening. This was a real shame, as it detracted from what is otherwise a beautiful and well-maintained hotel. In summary, the Colony Club has a lot going for it: a stunning refurbishment, generous space, and some truly excellent staff members. However, the inconsistent service and disappointing breakfast experience collectively let the hotel down for us. With improvements in these areas, it could easily be exceptional.

"Another great stay at the Colony Club."

10.0

We have lost count of how many times we have stayed at the Colony Club ( circa 14) and this visit will not be our last. The room refurbishments were very much needed and we were delighted with the changes. It was lovely to see so many of the staff were still there. Karene, Sandra, Dale, Corey, Matthew - too many to mention. There are some lovely new staff members such as Maradonna, a beach ambassador who smiles all day long. As with every hotel there are some issues that could be improved. One being the frustration that guests go out so early to pick sun loungers and not removing used towels when they leave. There was always enough sun loungers around the resort, however. It’s a great setting with an amazing beach with a laid back vibe and lovely, friendly staff that makes us return, time and time again.
