Over charged our credit card, no breakfast facilities, staff unsure how to process refunds

A building of character and history.

There was no atmosphere due to a lack of any catering ie food and drink. Squeaky floorboards everywhere. In need of some TLC.

This is an old-fashioned hotel that has had little spent on it for a long time. Despite that, the rooms are quite comfortable and the bathrooms generally work, though here too there is wear and tear (leaky taps for example). But towelling is good. I stay because it's well-located and clean and I get a good night's sleep. Also, there is a garage.

Time to spend a bit of money on bathroom flooring for example. It's a bit basic by the standards of 2026.

Run down.. Only bottled beer in the bar which was always empty. No eating facilities

Very nice comfy room, quiet overnight

The only minor issue was patchy tv signal but not really a problem. I had to wedge a packet of biscuits under the sash window to keep it open. But I understand the lion is a very old building which leads to such problems but that's part of its appeal to me.

Good location.
