Homewood Suites by Hilton Colorado Springs North USAFA

Our room was recently updated and was nice, clean, and roomy. Staff was friendly. Free breakfast was good.

The hotel is undergoing renovations and is under construction, so we needed to wind through a mess before we got to our renovated room in the back of the property. Also there were no ice machines on the property. However, one staff member did get me some ice from the kitchen for our evening cocktails.

The hotel is undergoing an upgrading and so some of the amenities are not ready for use. As a result, several of the rooms do not have Internet connection. However, the staff are very good and helpful and going out of their way to help to make sure we have a good experience.

I'm sure we've stayed in a worse hotel, but I honestly don't remember when. The property is under construction. That is not indicated anywhere on the website. A hotel patron we met said the construction has been going on for over a year. The price certainly does not reflect the fact that you will have a subpar experience. Below are some details of our room/experience: 1. The shower floods the entire bathroom floor whenever you take a quick shower, even when the door is fully shut. We had to use towels to mop it up or we couldn't walk in there to use the toilet. The doors seals hadn't been caulked. 2. No towel racks so no place to hang up wet towels 3. Some of the hangers in the closet were broken, the hooks pulled out as soon as you tried to hang something up 4. The toilet paper holder was broken and wouldn't hold the toilet paper 5. The toilet seat moved every time you sat on it. It was about to break and slide off the side. 6. The mattress of the hide-a-bed had springs that poked into your back all night, felt like you were being stabbed to death in the night 7. Not a big deal to us, but the cabinets in the kitchen don't line up, so it was really hard to shut them 8. Bathroom definitely felt like it was under construction. Excess spackle, unfinished wallpaper, no trim around sprinkler heads, door handle was sketchy. 9. No room directions in hallways. 10. Hallways congested with cleaning and construction equipment carts. We had to physically move the carts in order to get to our rooms. 11. There was something crusty in the bathroom sink drain - we tried to wipe it out, to no avail. 12. Bathroom floor was dirty. 13. The air conditioner ran constantly. Sounded like a jet engine. 14. Our friends room did not have hot water. 15. Staff were friendly upon arrival but indifferent when we checked out. Didn't bother to ask about the stay.
