Baymont by Wyndham Sioux Falls West (67058) Sioux/ Near Airport

Pros and cons. Clean property and staff were friendly. Perfect location, especially if in town for youth sports. 5 mins from the Sanford complex and 10 mins from good eats and things to do. Mattresses were comfortable, but they don’t have standard pillows. They’re more like small square throw pillows, they weren’t very soft, and each bed gets 3. Bring your own pillow if staying here or you may need to ask for extras if two people are sharing a bed. Breakfast was decent for something quick. Pool was nice and clean. Property needs a bit of upkeep, mostly cosmetic stuff (chipping paint, bad paint jobs, stained lamp shades, worn furniture, etc). It’s not fancy but it’s okay for a quick trip. The biggest issue with this place is that it shares a parking lot with an abandoned restaurant and a sketchy extended stay motel. We saw some questionable things across the parking lot, but we minded our own business and didn’t have any issues during our stay.

As a Brit, I cannot understand the glowing reviews. This place was pretty grim compared with the photos. Maintenance of the hotel was tired and shoddy, in the case of the bathroom it was bordering on unhygienic. They couldn’t be bothered to change the toilet seat, which was scratched through to what looked like wood (?) - a perfect breeding ground for bacteria; there was a huge crack in the tub fittings; plus a very sharp unidentified object sticking out of the wall above the light switch - see photos. As you can imagine we didn’t really fancy a soak in the jacuzzi/hot tub! The loose term of ‘Continental Breakfast’ was as per the usual dreadful standard found in these kind of places - a persuasive buffet of fruit loops, a waffle machine, a few bagels or toast, and coffee. I’ve travelled on a budget all over the world and would say I don’t have massively high expectations. However, I have to say the US has some of the worst ‘hotels’ I’ve stayed in - a lot of the 3* places would rate as 1 or 2* elsewhere. For the equivalent price elsewhere, I would have got a really nice room and a decent breakfast.

No one was at the front desk and there was no bell to ring to be let in the lobby just before midnight. We weren’t greeted by staff, but immediately asked for ID, followed by credit card with no explanation why until I asked (incidentals). We were told breakfast for Saturday was 6-9, but upon leaving we saw it was until 10. Little parking and very little lighting if you have to park on the back side of the motel.

Bed was comfortable. The smell of hallways, lobby and room were unacceptable. Musty and/or chemical smells. Triggered my asthma.

This was my first time at Baymont Inn and properties poorly managed. Carpet looked damp & toilet seat was broken. I was expecting kilt but more for $130 per night. Felt like we were in a cheap motel.

It was a good stay, just wished it had a hot tub.

This place is dirty. Beds are uncomfortable. Hallway has an offensive smell. The room they gave me looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. The only positive is that they moved us to a different room when I told them that the room wasn’t clean.

Easy access to highway. Pool was ok. Good breakfast!
