"Superb hotel with exemplary service"

10.0

On every count — location, helpfulness of staff, atmosphere — it’s difficult to think that the Old Parsonage Hotel could be bettered for a stay in Oxford. While it is pricey, one has no difficult in seeing what one is getting for the cost. The rooms are comfortable, spotlessly clean, admirably equipped with quality toiletries and bath-robes, and blissfully quiet, despite the hotel’s centrality, situated as it is in the middle of town at the meeting point of the Banbury and Woodstock Roads. The attention to detail is exemplary. When my overzealous credit card company decided to suspend my card because they were surprised to see a succession of charges made against it in England rather than my home country, staff allowed me to sort the problem out with an international call on their phone. In short, nothing was too much trouble for them. We would certainly stay there on any future trip to Oxford.

"A wonderful, relaxing place to stay close to the centre of Oxford"

9.0

The hotel is extremely well located near the city centre, but just outside the congestion zone, and has well organised parking facilities for guests - a real bonus in Oxford. The Old Parsonage is beautifully presented and decorated and is an extremely comfortable and relaxed place to stay. In particular, all the staff, reception, bar, restaurant and room service could not have been more pleasant, helpful and obliging. The food is of a very high standard, especially the breakfasts.

"Could do better"

4.0

Paid £450 a night and you get leaks on the windows, also, Be aware, they take a pre authorisation on your debit card when you check in, to cover the full room charge for the duration of your stay, then you are charged in full when you check out, I now have £1000 less funds to use in my account until the pending transaction is reversed, hotel just said’tough. Also, very small bar area for a hotel.

"A very enjoyable stay"

Good attentive service

Water wasn’t hot two days running. Pretty expensive. 13.5 per cent service charge on dinner in the hotel we felt was excessive.

"Great but really expensive."

8.0

Objectively a nice hotel but it’s £400 a night. And for rooms this size and zero facilities, you don’t pay that in many cities anywhere in the world. Pluses - parking with car charging. Not easy in Oxford - genuinely charming and attentive staff - very comfortable bed - full of character. Great art etc - the library is a lovely place to work or read But there are a few things that I wouldn’t expect at this price: - our sink was blocked and leaking over the floor. Not great in a tiny bathroom but was repaired that evening - some of the items in the room weren’t in perfect condition (the WiFi password sign next to the bed was crumpled for example). Not petty IMO because first rule of a hotel room is that there should be zero sign that you aren’t the first occupant. Housekeeping should get that right. So painful value for money, but not obvious where offers better. But if you’re charging this price you need to be 110% perfect.

"Excellent but spoilt by three people using the restaurant as an office with their laptops and phones in view."

10.0

The Old Parsonage is a beautiful hotel and restaurant and the perfect place to meet friends. It has excellent food and service. However, my last visit was spoilt as there were three people on an adjacent table with their phones and lap tops clearly using the restaurant as their office ! This spoilt the ambiance. Not even a cup of coffee in view !
